Her game play, muscular developement, mental maturity and game analysis and processing is definitely 100% not that of a 12 or 13 year old. Of course, her father start to train her @4yrs old for the foot work without the shuttlecord until she is 7. If we can apply this methokeyd to our local kids, we definitely can produced out own "LIANGXiaoYu". This tournament show the huge gap between local & foreign talent especially on the girls interm of foot work, skill & mental strength. If our SPORTSCHOOL(full time) players is not better than a 13 yrs old girl, how can we play against our neighbouring country? so Key point is foundation work. we need to learn from the best.
I second that..I guess it's just in foreign students' DNA that they are more, much more hardworking and diligent. Equipped with the best badminton training facilities in sports school and all the physiotherapist, psychologist and national coaches working around them, I think it's just a matter of diligence why our local shuttlers often failed to deliver satisfactory result. If one wants to excel in a sphere in life, he or she got to sacrifice leisure time for it. This is the opportunity cost of being a champion. ask any1 in sports school if they are doing 10 sets of 3 mins of double swing skipping everyday. No one does it, but xiaoyu is doing them on a daily basis without any complaint. Congratulation to our local shuttlers Ngo Yi Chye for overcoming RI's Malaysian Scholar Ong Cheng Yuen in under 17 men singles final. It's shuttles like him who convince me that Singapore's badminton has future. Kudo to you Yi Chye!
More tournament is needed in singapore to spur these youngsters to greater heights. In other countries, there are so many circuits to keep it competitive. Every month, there should be a competition. Is SBA hearing this?
That girl (liang yun) is her partner for cheers doubles!! and she got a couple of titles herself before! both girls are participating in U17 for doubles...
Thank you DivingBirdie. I have not been keeping up with the local badminton scene for the youngsters. But I remembered seeing Liang Xiaoyu, maybe when she first arrived in 2006 and entered a local competition, probably Cheers, and what an impact she made on me! So when I saw her again at this year's competition for the WS, I somehow have confidence in her talent. Not that I discounted Colleen, but I knew Colleen's fitness is suspect against such a fit and speedy Xiaoyu. Glad to know that Colleen is now at NTU and I hope she does well. BTW, whose that tall and slim lady in pink T-shirt with stripes in the above photo, and in white in my picture below, that I saw during the intervals when she would follow LXY's father in talking to Xiaoyu? Is she the mother? I think it must be about that time that I saw Andrianus and this handsome and tall boy really impressed me. Again, I thought he will go far just like Xiaoyu. But like a few other Indonesian students from Monfort before him, Andrianus may go overseas for his higher education and our local lads may miss that kind of keen competition that the foreign students could offer. Whatever, I too join the rest in congratulating Xiaoyu, her father and her coach for her deserving win. Of course if the national players had participated, Xiaoyu will not be able to capture the title. It is very difficult for her now to match her seniors like Xing Aiying, Fu Mingtian and Zhang Beiwen. Talking about the Sports School, it is heartening to see their sprightly student, Cheong Hui Min (8), who lost to eventual GSU17 champion, Thitrat Triyachart (1) in the SF brightening up the court with her matching head scarf. Hui Min has performed above herself in reaching the SF! In the picture below, two coaches were with her, one the Indonesian male coach and the other looks like she is from China. I wonder what happens to their female coach? Some pictures of Xiaoyu, Andrianus and Hui Min during the SF:
Oh, I got it all mixed up! Then who's the father. I suppose Zhang Qingsong also has a brother coaching in Singapore who was once China's national player?
Search the forum for Jia Min Yeo (that's her name). The first time I first saw her play was a few years ago. She was then just another kid training to excel at least in school. But she had a coach who believed she was made for a higher stage. He ignored the consistent pessimism of many others and kept at it. And, wow, here's a 11-year-old kid now easily trouncing her seniors!
Cheers doubles Anyone was there to watch the cheers doubles last night? I was there to witness a exciting game of guorui/azlin vs dixson/kiantat. guorui/azlin lose narrowly though. most of the other games were pretty fixed
kiantat's smash is very powerful... heard he's ex-johor state player... tonight's md QF matches starting at 8.40pm should be more evenly fought out... btw can someone enlighten me.... how come national players like chen guorui, tingting, noriko etc are allowed to play in this tournament? http://www.singaporebadminton.org.sg/squads/?sec=277&ssec=935
cheers chen guorui has left the national team and is currently serving national service now. He is representing SAFSA if i am not wrong. as for the others, i am curious as well. Last year was worse, sparring partners of sba dominated. :crying: anyway, did guorui won the csc tournament partnering ardian ? i heard about the results of the tournament
Maybe because the girls are not in the main team, only team 2? But really sad they have not improved much from Spore Sports School days, if the last Cheers Age Group Singles tournament is anything to go by. Is Noriko still with SSS or has she graduated? She ought to have otherwise she should not be in the national team.
yes, that's what i heard fom my friend...shop/coaching classes at tampines sports hall. but i've never been to his shop though as i at the opp end of the island...
