Oh Yeah, I forgot...in MAS you collect EPF in one lump sum at 55, right? In Canada, we got our pension paid monthly, therefore if kaput early, there goes the pension.

Me too. Saw Sylvia Ng on TV holding the Yoneyama wooden racket in the SEA (or was it SEAP??) games & fell in love with her immediately. Loved the way she played, I think Susi Susanti is a mirror image of her. Not physically though but their style of play. She won the gold medal then if I am not mistaken. Think it was maybe 1976?? Anyway, I would still prefer the professional commentators doing the commentating, even though I do still love Sylvia very much. :)

Ok, your wish is my command, if I see her.

Yup, both have it's own merits. Based on the Canadian system, the govt will save a lot if everyone kaput, immediately just after retirement. He He !

I still remember Sylvia's last battle with the tall and huge Verawati of Indonesia in the 1977 SEA Games at Stadium Negara, Kuala Lumpur.

She won the match and the gold medal, after which she retired. I think she was 29 then. And from then on, Indonesia took over ascendancy of the SEA Games badminton competitions.

Sylvia Ng as a young player

    .
I posted a photo of Sylvia Ng, as a young player, in one of the threads here at BadmintonCentral. But that photo is no longer there. Perhaps Sylvia has asked for it to be removed.

Sylvia Ng won the Womens Singles Gold

    .
That's correct. Sylvia Ng won the Womens Singles Gold, and Katherine Teh the Silver, at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, Canada.

Malaysia won 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze medals at that Games (all coming from Badminton).

Of course it's the price of the ticket.

During the MAS GP Gold, it was full house and we had to jostle for seats.

The ticket cost RM25 to watch LCW play in the final. At the SSMF, it's RM 63. Ask your friend, limsy.

Organisers of the SSMF have to pay for all the airfares and accommodation expenses

    .
We have to understand this. The organisers of the SSMF have to pay for all airfares and accommodation expenses for the players.

For GP Gold, ordinary SS and other tournaments, the players pay for their own expenses.

No wonder, and there were so many European based players at the SSMF.
