Day 5 - Perhentian Islands.. A few more tips for those who want to travel to East Coast and the 2 islands: - They will charge Rm5 per person when you want to go to any of the island. It is a mandatory govt. fee (Marine Park Conservation) - Redang Island turned out to be a paradise for mostly Asians. On the other hand, Perhentian Island is more suited for Caucasian tourists. Personally, i would say each one has it's own pros/cons/uniqueness. - The difference between Redang and Perhentian Island is basically how the resorts are arranged: In Redang Island, you've got the resorts placed next to each another. In Perhentian Islands, each resort is secluded and separated from the other resorts. There is more of a privacy feeling in Perhentian Islands. In Redang Island, there is more of a "lively" atmosphere. And vice versa for Perhentian Island. - One can jetty off from one resort to another in either Perhentian Islands (Big and Small islands). The rate usually runs from Rm10 to Rm30 or more per stop. It depends how far you want to go from one resort to another. - Another thing about bringing luggages w/Air Asia. For those thinking of bringing a luggage, Air Asia will only charge Rm30 if the luggage weighs more than 15 kg. *markchan, i'm using a regular (Canon) P&S digicam..it's easier to shoot during daytime.. This view is from Flora Bay Resort (arguably the most affordable resort in both islands).. Overall map of Redang Island..usually the tour will take you to Pelangi Resort (the most crowded portion of the island).. One of the boat/ferry/jetty platform on Redang Island.. Going back to Merang..it was a slow ride back.. As we say sampai jumpa lagi (see you again) to Redang Island.. ..and selamat datang (welcome) di Perhentian Islands..This is at Kuala Besut, the jetty-off point to Pulau Perhentian..Yes, it was a bumpy, yet fun ride throughout.. Perhentian Island @ Flora Bay Resort.. Perhentian Island @ Kampong (Village) station (shot taken facing the Big Island)..There are no hotels on the Village station.. Yes, they call them Taxi and there are many of them available for island hopping..One can even rent the boat.. Had these served for lunch: Fish fillets in black & pepper sauce, tom yam shrimp soup. The foods served in East Coast region has a Thai/Tom-yam flavor.. This was taken at Long Beach Resort (Pasir Panjang).. These next ones were taken @ Coral Bay Resort.. At Arowana Resort (Big Island).. The chalet where i stayed..

In that short period, you seen MAS more than me. I always said, some of the best beaches are in MAS, quite, serene and simply beautiful and best of all affordable. That is one of the main reason why we choose to retire in MAS one day, being born and raised there we have the benefit of knowing the country, people, lauguage, etc. The MAS pics you took parallel the pics that LOH bombarded us in his Sing also can thread every now and then Tourism MAS should compensate you. BTW, what camera you use?
you got it.. ..i took that pic just for you!..so, next time if there's a BC get-together, you will spare some time, just a couple of weeks or so to get away & join the BCers. Mark your calendar for 2012>OG in ENG!...and don't worry, i will ask OTB to come along and bodyguard you in case any BCers want to tease you... OTB, i think the East Coast is worth the trip. Too bad i didn't have a couple of extra days to enjoy that region more. I didn't try all the specialty foods from that region either. I'm using a Canon P&S digicam. No need to use a semi dSLR & interchangeable lenses..
Day 6 - Welcome to Penang... ..aka "The Pearl of the Orient".. ..Welcome to Penang, indeed!! well, what an interesting way to be welcomed in Penang as i was greeted by this: The kitchen of one of the food stalls, where samuel882 and i had our late dinner, caught on fire; even the stage performers/dancers and singers had to bail out and run off stage as the worried audience got up off their seats, scrambled and turned their attention to the fire. It sure made one of the most memorable welcoming days i've seen..What a scene!.. Leaving Perhentian Islands (Small Island on the left & Big Island on the right).. Arriving back in Kuala Besut port, from Perhentian Island, about to leave for Kota Bahru's airport..On the road to Kota Bahru.. But before heading off to Penang, stopped by in Kota Bahru (limsy's hometown).. ..Stopped by a place w/hand-craft shops.. Enjoyed a bowl of hearty and cholesterol rich Curry Mee.. Finally, in Georgetown.. samuel882 took me to this Penang Fast food courts to try some delicious Penang dishes.. Inside the food court..they got the band and the dancing ladies, too..and the infamous "hell's kitchen" going on, too.. Chicken rice stall.. Rojak stall.. Seafood stall.. The 5 course meals dinner...of course, we tried to finish 'em all, but just couldn't.. ..stay tuned, to be continued with...yep, you guessed it, more food pics..

More Penang food pics.. ..forgot to add these.. We went and met Kong-19 and his friends and enjoyed a nice dinner @ a Chinese restaurant.. Yes, they call the food court place that name.. More Penang specialty dishes.. Lok-Lok.. Lo-ba And last but not least, tried some durians @ Tropical Fruit farm..since it's not durian season yet, the price was astronomically high for M'sian standard (Rm55)..
Day 7 - Adventure day in Penang.. ..1st full day in Penang. Was taken and accompanied by another very hospitable Penang-based BCer. I really enjoyed the accompaniment very much. Went to a couple of sightseeing places to see a bit of Penang history and Chinese influence (Buddhism). Then @ night time, the 3 of us plus kong-19 met at a Chinese restaurant with his friends for a nice dinner. Afterwards, we hit the road, westward, to enjoy some durians @ a Tropical Fruit farm.. In Georgetown/Penang..Komtar building, cylindrical bldg, one of Penang famous monuments, on the right hand side.. UMNO building.. Georgetown area.. At a food court just outside of Georgetown.. One of the many Indian temples.. At Kek Lok Si, another sightseeing place; arguably the biggest Buddhist temple in the whole Penang.. At Baba-Nyonya museum, Pinang Peranakan Mansion..another sightseeing place; this one is a historical bldg with Chinese+Malay ancestry (built at the end of the 19th century by one of local history's famous personaity, the "Hai Kee Chan" and had once served as the residence and office of Kapitan Cina Chung Keng Kwee.. One of the earliest cameras used by the family, made in Germany.. Hand-crafts..and relief works.. Small hand-relief crafts, this one is supposed to depict Heaven.. ..and this one is supposed to depict Hell.. The front entrance door. They told a story of the reason why the door opening starts at more than 24" off the ground is because to prevent ghosts from entering.. Ancestral tablets.. Taken from one of the rooms in the house.. chris i need to apologies as i cant be ur tour guide and driver at my own hometown there is more beautiful and cultured place to visit in kota bharu/kelantan i am touched when i saw my hometown picture i already didnt go back for 3 months and 2 more months to go:crying:
..when you come to the T&UC and/or attend one of our BC gatherings, you'll be able to be introduced to a local Penangite member. He is very helpful and resourceful & will be able to help you around. Many things to see & enjoy but I would say, if you can spend abt a week in Penang, it should be enough. Where do you plan to stay in Penang? Georgetown area or the beach (Batu Ferringhi area)? Weather right now is a bit cloudy. It rained on and off yesterday. ..if you were my tour guide and driver, then i would need an extra day or so to enjoy your hometown. Unfortunately, not much time now; maybe next time lah..
