i don't mind BWF like to promote SS, or BS, or whatever...

the point is not whether effectively affect what team, the point is, as a professional sports governing body, you should tell people at the start of the year / season these fundamental rules, but not the last minute before the kick-off of the competition!!!

and they used the WR for team ranking in TC/UC for god's sake!!!

could the English Premier League suddenly change tonite that the team won the least points would be the champion?

I'm sure other teams would like to take down China by badminton way, not by such ugly way...

Eaglehelang's post #21 should clear things up if you can stomach the Google translation.

It would be unprofessional if the rules were changed, not just at the last minute, but even if it was changed in the last few months.

But dudes, it was not changed. We don't know how the rumours appeared as of yet, so stop pointing fingers. It could have surfaced from misunderstandings. In the video (link provided above), it seems some officials did not even understand the notion of notional rankings, even if it has been used for a long time already.

So, if the Chinese media confirms it, or they hear it straight from LYB and ZJ, then it must be correct? I wouldn't be so sure unless I get it straight from BWF itself. It's funny why no other press covered it except for the Chinese press. Either someone's playing a dumb joke on them, or some misunderstandings are involved.

If the notional ranking system have been used for a long time, I wonder why Cai&Fu was never pointed as No.1 seed on World Championship and super series recently while their notional points was the highest among all MD players. Is that means BWF always use "world ranking" to determine player's ranking, but the definition of "world ranking" can be changed according to BWF's advantage of the time?

BTW, there are 5 teams include China and Korea should change the order of play this time under this long-time rules, are these teams fresher to TU&UC?

Yeah, like event explained in the other thread, it's still WR, but they will use notional ranking, used mostly for stratch pairs.

These rules have been there for many years. I will explain it to you.
First, go to http://www.internationalbadminton.org/page.aspx?id=10513. Go to Part III, Section 1A. It will open up a PDF file. Read 12.6. This will answer why CY/FHY were not seeded No. 1. Because for seeds 1 to 4, the notional/adjusted rankings are not used except for certain conditions.

To have an easier picture, go to Section 1B, Appendix 7. This shows why CY/FHY has a higher notional ranking than GZD/XC.

This is a relatively complicated rule which is easy to overlook. I say this because I overlooked it myself despite knowing this rule. The Chinese officials probably think they had got it right in their strategy to get CY/FHF as MD2. I thought they got it right, too, but this thread brought to my attention how we've all overlooked it.

Let me show you a real-life example of how notional ranking is applied.
Go to the recent All-England tournament info page http://www.internationalbadminton.org/tournamentcalendar_event.aspx?id=2344&calendarid=73.
Open "Main and Qualifying Report Version 3". It will open an Excel file.
Go to the MD tab. There, you will see CY/FHY with the notional points of 84377, which is the highest among all pairs. But the rules state that notional rankings can only be used for 5th seeding and below. Therefore, they are seeded No 5, AHEAD of GZD/XC. As you can see, Zhang Nan/Chai Biao's position is also elevated due to notional points.

Actually, this should have keyed us into the fact that CY/FHF is still CHN's top pair. They were seeded higher than other CHN MDs in recent tournaments. If CHN were serious about wanting CY/FHF as their MD2, they should have sent them to some (2) small tournaments and lose.
