Just reading this old development plan of the russian federation and for the 2005-2008 period their scheduled budget was roughly 854k GBP at todays exchange rate [roughly 40 million rubel in 2005, only added the numbers roughly. It's a bit less if I were to properly add up the numbers] (listed a bit strange since it only mentiones the years 2005 and 2008 separately so whether it's for 2 or 4 years is still open but in either case nowhere near) Anyhow, let's not go further into it and keep this thread for BE news purposes
maybe Sport England should put more money into badminton instead of wasting all those funding for the LTA which is a complete joke. There is a better chance that our badminton players could win a few medals in 2012 than those of the tennis players.

The line-up also includes 2006 world mixed doubles champion Nathan Robertson and men’s doubles partner Anthony Clark, who won silver medals in mixed and men’s doubles at the same championships in Madrid. This sort of thing has been going on over the last 25 years in England. Where is the proof of success of such a program. Even if you did it for badminton, judging by the results from tennis, you'd get nowhere.

Well, at least we have Andy Murray in tennis. True, with so much money getting pumped into football(read not American/Australian football)-players flying in busineess class during international matches, lodging in 5 stars hotels, specially employed cooks and nurtritionists and medical tems, our football team still failed BIG TIME. That's certainly no much basis I have by saying that we will excel in badminton once more kids were involved in badminton. However, the situation will be much better than what we are at the moment(i.e. struggling to win within Europe). That's for sure.

Robertson won the world championships with Gail Emms in 2006 The duo are set to face Denmark's world and European champions Thomas Laybourn and Kamilla Rytter Juhl, if they make it through to the third round. Robertson, with Anthony Clark, also has a daunting task in the men's doubles. Clark and Robertson begin against former world champions Tony Gunawan and Howard Bach of the USA. If the pair can survive that test, a meeting with 2006 and 2009 world champions Fu Haifeng and Cai Yun of China beckons in the third round. England's Chris Langridge and Robin Middleton received a first-round bye but will face Chinese fourth seeds Guo Zhendong and Xu Chen in the second round. The English duo, seeded 15, recovered from a slow start to beat Valeriy Atrashenkov and Elena Prus 21-16 21-15. But Wallwork suffered defeat in the women's doubles as she and Gabrielle White were beaten 21-16 21-16 by Petya Nedelcheva and Anastasia Russkikh. Robertson and Wallwork were soon in control of the match Chris Langridge and Robin Middleton were beaten 24-22 21-15 by Zhendong Guo and Chen Xu in the men's doubles. The Ukrainian pair of Prus and Atrashenkov established a 14-10 lead in the first game in Paris, but were overhauled as Robertson and Wallwork collected 11 of the last 13 points. Seven unanswered points followed early in the second game as the English pair built a cushion that allowed them to close out the match in relative comfort. The combination, who have been together since Robertson's partnership with Gail Emms ended in 2008, won bronze at the European Championships in April. 23.08.10 Ouseph wins thriller and Robertson & Clark beat 2005 champions on day one in RAJIV OUSEPH got England’s Yonex BWF World Championships bid off to a winning start in Paris today when he snatched a thrilling men’s singles first round clash with Dutch No. 2 Eric Pang. And towards the end of the evening session on day one Nathan Robertson and Anthony Clark beat 2005 world champions Howard Bach and Tony Gunawan to reach the men's doubles second round. Ouseph, the three-times English National champion from Hounslow in Middlesex, had to work for his win, needing four match points before coming through against the world No 36 21-19 15-21 23-21 in 49 minutes. The world No 17 got off to a slow start and trailed 18-11 in the opening game before pulling back to 19-19 and going on to take the opener at his first opportunity. But Pang was always ahead in the second and squared the match 21-15. In the decider Ouseph trailed 14-11 but the European bronze medallist and US Open champion turned the tide to stand at match point with the score 20-18. But Pang recovered and Ouseph failed to convert a third match point at 21-20 before finally holding his nerve to win 23-21. It will be the third time England has hosted the World Championships but the first time the Championships have been staged in London. Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena staged the 1993 and 2003 World Championships and the NIA is also the home of the Yonex All England Championships, the world’s oldest Open badminton tournament. The All England was always regarded as the unofficial world championships until the inaugural World Championships was introduced in 1977 and in 2011 it will be one of five new Premier events in the 2011 BWF Super Series. The announcement of Yonex as the title sponsor for the 2011 BWF World Championships comes on the opening day of this year’s 18th BWF World Championships in Paris, where the world’s No 1 badminton brand is also the title sponsor. His 34-minute victory brought a dubious reward as he must now face world No 1 and top seed Lee Chong Wei, the All England champion, in the third round on Thursday. The three-times English national champion not only won but did so impressively. He dominated the opening game with strong smashes and clever net play to take it 21-12 and then showed a lot of nerve after seeing Jorgensen recover to 19-19 after trailing 17-14 and 19-16 in the second. In the end Ouseph needed four match points before getting the better of the European runner-up and 11th seed 25-23, having saved a game point at 23-22 down. Ouseph said: “This made up for the Europeans. I think I played better and perhaps he didn’t play quite as well. The win means a lot because this is my first World Championships.” Of the third-round clash with Lee, US Open champion Ouseph said: “He wants to win the World Championships so I am definitely going to be the underdog. As far as I know, they are ex-coaches in Badminton England. Don't think they are coming back anytime soon.
