Just reading this old development plan of the russian federation and for the 2005-2008 period their scheduled budget was roughly 854k GBP at todays exchange rate [roughly 40 million rubel in 2005, only added the numbers roughly. It's a bit less if I were to properly add up the numbers]
(listed a bit strange since it only mentiones the years 2005 and 2008 separately so whether it's for 2 or 4 years is still open but in either case nowhere near)

Anyhow, let's not go further into it and keep this thread for BE news purposes

maybe Sport England should put more money into badminton instead of wasting all those funding for the LTA which is a complete joke. There is a better chance that our badminton players could win a few medals in 2012 than those of the tennis players.

Ouseph lifts Yonex US Open title in the best win of his career

    image-5897-220-auto-both-both-85-5.jpg

RAJIV OUSEPH gave English badminton a huge boost by lifting the men’s singles title at the Yonex US Open in Orange County, Los Angeles, in what he calls “the biggest win of my career.”

The 23-year-old third seed from Hounslow in West London defeated France’s ninth seed Brice Leverdez 21-17 21-9 in 30 minutes for the biggest win of his career.

He dropped just two games in the whole tournament – in his opening win and in the semi-finals – and the victory made up for his disappointing early exit at the Canadian Open just over a week ago, as well as avenging team-mate Carl Baxter’s defeat by Leverdez in the third round in Los Angeles.

Ouseph must now wait until Thursday to see if the ranking points he collects for his US triumph will be enough to lift Great Britain’s highest-ranked singles player the two places he needs to take him into the world’s top 20 for the first time. His previous highest ranking is word No. 21.

Congratulation to Rajiv for his first ever gp title. You have done well, my man. Go, England! This is the message we wanted to send to all the big boys in WC: Watch out in Paris, we are coming for ya.

Rajiv Ouseph gives British badminton reason to cheer with US Open win

I might not get the chance to post this sort of news often(just hope that I am wrong), so might as well make the full use of this thread.

    ******************************************************************
British Badminton's chances of Olympic success may rest in the doubles events but Rajiv Ouseph handed the sport a major boost with two years to go after England's men's singles No 1 lifted the US Open in Los Angeles.

Top flight: Rajiv Ouseph has enjoyed a good run that could see him join world?s top 20 in the men's singles Photo: PA

Ouseph, 23, defeated France’s Brice Leverdez 21-17, 21-9 in 30 minutes - a victory that is sure to cement the Middlesex right-hander's leap-bounding year with a place in the world's top 20 this week.

The three-time national champion dropped just two games all week and his title comes just two weeks after Denmark’s Kenneth Jonassen arrived as new men’s singles badminton coach.

Middlesex-based Ouseph, who travels next to the World Championships in Paris in three weeks, said: "I was feeling some pressure during this tournament but, after the first difficult round [he won 21-19 in the third game against Lee Hock Lai of Malaysia] I felt more relaxed and confident.

"I am happy to have won a lot of hard matches against tough players this week. It’s definitely the biggest win of my career and now I am ready to take on new challenges."

Badminton England choose nine-man squad for Paris World Championships

The 23 year-old Middlesex right-hander rose three places to No 18 this week and will look to build on that success when he heads to Paris in under three weeks.

The three-times English National Badminton champion and European bronze medallist is also part of a nine-strong squad to Paris and will be joined in the men’s singles by world No 31 Carl Baxter.

The line-up also includes 2006 world mixed doubles champion Nathan Robertson and men’s doubles partner Anthony Clark, who won silver medals in mixed and men’s doubles at the same championships in Madrid.
Robertson and Clark, the world No 20 pair, are England’s best medal hopes in the squad, having won the 2009 Singapore Open title to give England their first Super Series title.
Robertson and Clark are joined in the men’s doubles by Yorkshire’s Robin Middleton and Surrey’s Chris Langridge while Leeds pair Gabby White and Jenny Wallwork will tackle the women’s doubles.
World No 12s Robertson and Wallwork are each tackling two events in Paris. The European bronze medallists lead England’s mixed doubles challenge in Paris along with Chris Adcock and White.

This sort of thing has been going on over the last 25 years in England. Where is the proof of success of such a program. Even if you did it for badminton, judging by the results from tennis, you'd get nowhere.

Badminton England ends void as Andy Wood named GB head coach

Badminton England continued their promise of swift changes at the top of the sport on Wednesday when Andy Wood was named as GB head coach.

Wood, one of the sport’s most respected coaches, was the driving force behind the success story of Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms in mixed doubles during his previous tenure as head coach, which covered the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games.

His appointment ends a frantic few weeks at Badminton England's Milton Keynes headquarters after Ian Moss quit his post as performance director two weeks ago.

With the World Championships starting on Aug 23 in Paris, Adrian Christy, Badminton England's chief executive, first moved to fill the void left by Moss's departure by naming Vikki McPherson as head of GB Performance. It effectively paved the way for a new on-court role for Wood, who was previously Olympic team leader.

Wood's experience will certainly lift England's nine-man squad for Paris, which is already buoyant after Rajiv Ouseph lifted the US Open title in Los Angeles last month.

Well, at least we have Andy Murray in tennis. True, with so much money getting pumped into football(read not American/Australian football)-players flying in busineess class during international matches, lodging in 5 stars hotels, specially employed cooks and nurtritionists and medical tems, our football team still failed BIG TIME. That's certainly no much basis I have by saying that we will excel in badminton once more kids were involved in badminton. However, the situation will be much better than what we are at the moment(i.e. struggling to win within Europe). That's for sure.

Robertson & Wallwork get tough World Championships draw

England's mixed doubles pair Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork have been handed a difficult draw at the World Championships in Paris.

    _48670087_robertson226gi.jpg

Robertson won the world championships with Gail Emms in 2006

The duo are set to face Denmark's world and European champions Thomas Laybourn and Kamilla Rytter Juhl, if they make it through to the third round.
Robertson, with Anthony Clark, also has a daunting task in the men's doubles.
Clark and Robertson begin against former world champions Tony Gunawan and Howard Bach of the USA.
If the pair can survive that test, a meeting with 2006 and 2009 world champions Fu Haifeng and Cai Yun of China beckons in the third round.
England's Chris Langridge and Robin Middleton received a first-round bye but will face Chinese fourth seeds Guo Zhendong and Xu Chen in the second round.
Robertson won the world title with his former mixed doubles partner Gail Emms back in 2006.

Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork win Paris opener

Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork are through to the second round of the World Championships mixed doubles.
The English duo, seeded 15, recovered from a slow start to beat Valeriy Atrashenkov and Elena Prus 21-16 21-15.
But Wallwork suffered defeat in the women's doubles as she and Gabrielle White were beaten 21-16 21-16 by Petya Nedelcheva and Anastasia Russkikh.

Robertson and Wallwork were soon in control of the match

Chris Langridge and Robin Middleton were beaten 24-22 21-15 by Zhendong Guo and Chen Xu in the men's doubles.
The Ukrainian pair of Prus and Atrashenkov established a 14-10 lead in the first game in Paris, but were overhauled as Robertson and Wallwork collected 11 of the last 13 points.

Seven unanswered points followed early in the second game as the English pair built a cushion that allowed them to close out the match in relative comfort.
The combination, who have been together since Robertson's partnership with Gail Emms ended in 2008, won bronze at the European Championships in April.
After being eased out of the opening game of their match, Wallwork and White provided some early resistance in the second as they traded points with the tenth seeds.

23.08.10 Ouseph wins thriller and Robertson & Clark beat 2005 champions on day one in

    image-8981-220-auto-both-both-85-5.jpg

RAJIV OUSEPH got England’s Yonex BWF World Championships bid off to a winning start in Paris today when he snatched a thrilling men’s singles first round clash with Dutch No. 2 Eric Pang.
And towards the end of the evening session on day one Nathan Robertson and Anthony Clark beat 2005 world champions Howard Bach and Tony Gunawan to reach the men's doubles second round.
Ouseph, the three-times English National champion from Hounslow in Middlesex, had to work for his win, needing four match points before coming through against the world No 36 21-19 15-21 23-21 in 49 minutes.
The world No 17 got off to a slow start and trailed 18-11 in the opening game before pulling back to 19-19 and going on to take the opener at his first opportunity. But Pang was always ahead in the second and squared the match 21-15.
In the decider Ouseph trailed 14-11 but the European bronze medallist and US Open champion turned the tide to stand at match point with the score 20-18. But Pang recovered and Ouseph failed to convert a third match point at 21-20 before finally holding his nerve to win 23-21.
That earned him a place in the last 32 and a contest against 11th seed Jan O Jorgensen, the Dane who beat him in the Yonex European Championships semi-finals in Manchester in April. Jogensen outplayed Austria’s Michael Lahnsteiner in straight games in the evening session.
Head coach Andy Wood said: “It was great to get the team off to a flying start. Rajiv competed really well when it really mattered at the end of the first and third games.

23.08.10 Yonex named title sponsor for the 2011 BWF World Championships at Wembley

    image-8977-220-auto-both-both-85-5.jpg

BADMINTON England today confirmed long-time commercial partners Yonex Company Ltd as the title sponsor for the 2011 BWF World Championships.
It will be the third time England has hosted the World Championships but the first time the Championships have been staged in London.
Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena staged the 1993 and 2003 World Championships and the NIA is also the home of the Yonex All England Championships, the world’s oldest Open badminton tournament.
The All England was always regarded as the unofficial world championships until the inaugural World Championships was introduced in 1977 and in 2011 it will be one of five new Premier events in the 2011 BWF Super Series.
The announcement of Yonex as the title sponsor for the 2011 BWF World Championships comes on the opening day of this year’s 18th BWF World Championships in Paris, where the world’s No 1 badminton brand is also the title sponsor.
The World Championships will come to London for the first time from August 8-14, 2011 and it marks the return of world-class badminton to the capital for the first time since 1993 when the Yonex All England Championships was staged at Wembley Arena for the last time before moving to its present home in Birmingham.
Along with Yonex as title sponsors, BADMINTON England are also pleased to confirm the Badminton World Federation, UK Sport, Visit London and Brent Council as official World Championships partners.
BADMINTON England’s Chief Executive Adrian Christy said today: “Yonex have sponsored the All England Championships for the last 27 years and we are delighted that they now feel able to sponsor the BWF World Championships at Wembley Arena as well.
“The 2011 World Championships will take on special significance because Wembley Arena will also be the venue for the badminton tournament at the Olympic Games so it will give badminton fans a taste of what’s to come at London 2012.

World Badminton Championships 2010: Rajiv Ouseph to face world No 1 Lee Chong Wei

England's Rajiv Ouseph heads for unchartered waters after triumphing at his first world championships in the biggest match of his career.

Ouseph avenged his European Championships semi-final defeat by Jan O Jorgensen in Manchester in April by beating him to reach the third round in Paris on Wednesday.

His 34-minute victory brought a dubious reward as he must now face world No 1 and top seed Lee Chong Wei, the All England champion, in the third round on Thursday.

The three-times English national champion not only won but did so impressively.
He dominated the opening game with strong smashes and clever net play to take it 21-12 and then showed a lot of nerve after seeing Jorgensen recover to 19-19 after trailing 17-14 and 19-16 in the second.
In the end Ouseph needed four match points before getting the better of the European runner-up and 11th seed 25-23, having saved a game point at 23-22 down.
Ouseph said: “This made up for the Europeans. I think I played better and perhaps he didn’t play quite as well. The win means a lot because this is my first World Championships.”
Of the third-round clash with Lee, US Open champion Ouseph said: “He wants to win the World Championships so I am definitely going to be the underdog. But I’ll go out to enjoy it. Jan has beaten him before so I don’t see why I can’t.”
Carl Baxter was also trying to join Ouseph in the third round but he went out against ninth seed Boonsak Ponsana.
The Thailand player won 21-18 21-17 in 42 minutes but Kent’s Baxter, who is now based in Petts Wood, can be pleased at pushing him all the way, although he will be frustrated at not making more of a 15-12 lead in the second game.

Read in the English baddy site that BE is looking for a Men's doubles coach

and the names of people "applying" for the job include names like Park,Tan or Rexy.

    Is this a hoax?

Rajiv Ouseph loses to Lee Chong Wei at Badminton Worlds

Briton Rajiv Ouseph run at the World Championships came to an end as he was resoundingly beaten 21-9 21-9 by world number one Lee Chong Wei in Paris.

    _48885546_010044944-1.jpg
Ouseph was no match for the world number one

The Malaysian took a mere 27 minutes to defeat the Londoner, who could console himself with the news of his rise to a career-high 14th in the world rankings.
"I tried everything I could but he was too good," admitted Ouseph.
"But it's been a good week," added the three-time and reigning English Open champion after his round three exit.
Ouseph was the final Briton to be eliminated from the event at the French capital's Coubertin Stadium.
Earlier, Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork were beaten 20-22 21-12 21-18 in the last 16 of the mixed doubles against Thomas Laybourn and Kamilla Juhl.
The English pair had beaten their opponents in the third round of this year's Yonex All England Championships.
