Bossy Chinese team getting on the nerves of many in Paris

    Monday August 23, 2010

CHINA can boast of having the quantity and quality in their team for the world championships this year. But their lack of respect for others is slowly getting on the nerves of many.
It was learnt that they had been quite demanding as far as training at the competition venue, the Pierre de Coubertin, was concerned.
Due to the big number of qualifiers – a total of 25 – they needed six courts to train at the venue.
But what irked the organisers was that they just took over the slot allotted to Japan. They also trained beyond the specified time given to them.
Some grouses have also emerged over them at the hotel.
They have a team of 60, including the support team and several cooks.
During meals, it seems, other occupants of the hotel have to live with overbearing noise and the smell of food.
While they may be a difficult group to manage outside of court, no one can take the credit away from the Chinese on court.
In fact, it will not be a surprise if they return home with all the titles at stake in Paris.

    French food is great

    .
    French food is great. :):):)

Perhaps the CHN team is having different times for their meals, different from the French population.

..yeah, ho hum news..It's not like this is the 1st time ever for the CHN squad to bring in their own chefs and cooks (i remember back in 2007 SC in Scotland)..on that note, i would guess they'll be bringing their own chefs and cooks for the next 2 yrs to Europe (as the 2011 WC will be in ENG and the 2012 will be in ENG as well)??..
As for the CHN team taking some allotted court time from JPN team & trained beyond the specified assigned time, i can understand considering the hall/playing venue only has 4 courts (from the pics). Unless they have another practice court hidden somewhere..

There is another hall for practice(?). I think Thom Bad has posted the venue layout pic somewhere

Or did I see that somewhere else ... on the left there was a player's only zone and to the right of the main arena was another hall.

That is not the point. Rules are rules. Even if there are only 2 courts one still need to abide by the organizer rules and only train at the time and court stipulated. The problem lies with the Chinese why ask about the number of courts available instead? What would happen to Japan then?

Even if they have to train by the road side.....

..was the Japanese team even present at their scheduled time of practice?..do we know the actual details of what really happened/transpired which caused some people to blame the CHN team because they took slotted practice time for the JPN team??..

Lin Dan was quoted in a HK media, "frankly, the most important thing is to promote to the world the sport of badminton and not to set a record 4 consecutive world champion titles."

I can't read chinese but if this is what he meant, then let others win and spread the titles around. Ha ha. It was like Tiger Woods and Schumacher at one time where it was boring to golf and motor racing respectively.
