I'll offer my congratulatory post to the China team, but as long as their dominant one, my support will lie with the underdog. If the circumstances was reversed, the same thing will apply
Very true. But though in most cases I prefer the Chinese player, an all-China final is a bit of a turn-off. For example, I prefer Lin Dan then other MS, but a CJ-Lin Dan final would not be the best. So I favor that at least one of the two lose in the semis! Same with other disciplines.
From what I have seen, yes. On his day LYD can be better but he lacks consistency at the moment as he recovers from his injury
It's not so much anti-China as anti-China domination... Nobody likes to see one country take all or most of the golds. A good spread is so much more exciting. I don't think anyone's blaming China for being amazing. But I personally wish the rest of the world would step it up a bit (easier said than done)... You can lose the interest of a whole country of viewers when it turns out to be an all Chinese final (or worse - semifinal). That can't be good for the sport... Occasionally it's okay, but it happens far too often. That's really the only reason I generally cheer against China (even when some of my favourite players are Chinese).
Without taking anything away from Hendra Setiawan, the Koreans were guilty of impatience. Obviously they didn't do enough analysis work on the Indonesians, and were only concentrating on the Chinese. The shuttle was kept too low for their benefit. So the Koreans pushed it up and then tried to use their defence to turn the rally. But that initial attacking chances given to the Indonesians were more likely to bear fruit because of their pace-mixing style. This was practically the same script as the World Championship 2007 Final. The Indonesians only major fault was their collapse from a 9-5 lead in the second game. Even in the third, without several unforced errors, the Olympic Champs would have been at least 4-6 points clear at the break. The match was made to look more competitive than it actually is, and LYD was never really in a threatening position, injury or no injury.
Actually most of us not anti-China, but anti-domination. Unfortunately, it's CHN that does the domination. However, it's just expression of disappointment for failure to catch CHN .
Not surprising, as most ppl (including us) thought that the INA pair is off-form and should be easily dealt with. Compared to Fu/Cai, who won the Thomas Cup, WC, and 2 consecutive SS titles. So, the focus is naturally on the CHN pair.
I agree with both postings. I will cheer for Li Na and Zheng Jie in tennis, Ding Hui in snooker and etc. I always go with the underdogs or "under represented" so long as they are not against my favourite players.
Yup, it's not CHN fault why their shuttlers become so dominant. Others must improve their standard to stop China dominance.
