Boss, LCW ONLY get ridiculed by a very small numbers of BCers. If you keep a list of all the BCers that started all these negative threads about LCW, there are actually a very small handful of them, I would even dare to say that there are less than 10 in total. Do they represent the majority opinions about LCW? I don't think so. But unfortunately they are the most vocal ones in BC.
I disagree that LCW has a passive playing style at least not in the last 18 months or so. He has worked hard to inject more pace and force in his shots - something that even Gill Clark the commentator has noticed. This extra dimension to LCW's games has brought him much success in the last 2 years or so. Although I must admit that LD's attacking shots are truly a force to be reckoned with more so than LCW's. The problem is when he is faced with an equally brick wall defense like LD's and other players he quickly reverts to his old style of playing - I think by default, an instinct if you like. It's as if he goes back on automatic and plays in a 'safe' mode. This was what happened in the semis when he played CJ. During the intervals you could see Misbun urging him to be more forceful - judging by the hand gestures that Misbun was using. LCW followed instructions and you could see the change in his style thus ending in a win for him. I guess playing in the attacking style a la LD is quite alien to LCW after being a defensive type of player for so many years. It's hard to break out of your comfort zone. As for this aura that he doesn't have, it simply boils down to not winning both the WC and OG title which TH and LD has done. Badminton's 'grand slams' are the AE, WC, OG and for Asian players the AG title. If you don't have these then you are deemed 'incomplete' as a player. This is why LCW's no 1 world ranking is treated with much skepticism in the Malaysian press as well as some of BAM's officials simply because they feel he has not 'earned' it with those titles.
Lin Dan could replace Lee Chong Wei as World No.1 (but it's highly unlikely) . To me, LCW is still the No.1 player in the world. It's because LCW worked hard for it by participating in more BWF tournaments. Lin Dan is currently the most talented player in the world. Personally, I wish that LD can participate in more tournaments. If he does, he can replace LCW as World No.1. .
I think more accurately: - LCW is the #1 ranked player in the world - LD is the best player in the world
Many people have been No1, eg. Roslin Hashim, Chen Hong,Wong Choon Han,LD etc etc. it has lower prestige than other achievements. However LCW is exceptional in that he held it for so long. Sad fact is when two people go for a job in a big firm ,one claims to have a degree from Harvard and another from say Third World. who do you think gets the job? ( I know there will be smart answers from some Msia eg.cheapest etc).
Not sure I would want to agree with you on any of your points. The world ranking is earned by a player wrt his performances over a specific period of time. You cannot take away this achievement from him so callously. LCW is exceptional by almost any standard. His H2H records against any (almost) other player says it all. Only LD would have a better record. Your job/degree analogy is incorrect; both applicants are from top institutions. You choose the applicant based on your specific criteria, that's all.
If I am a boss of a big firm to select an employee, I would select Lee Chong Wei . If I am a boss of a big firm to select an employee, I would select Lee Chong Wei. It's because his attendance is better. I wouldn't select Lin Dan; because I don't know when he work turn up to work, .
No,no if I'm boss I would select Lin Dan because he represents more than 1 billion people. He can go to Jericho everyday for all I care. With LCW he represents only 26 million. I'm only interested in the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ he can bring in! That is marketing!
On the other hand, if the work is mission critical... then I would select Lin Dan because I know he would get the job done right!
disappointing answers from Msians. The standard HR answer would be whoever accepts a lower salary! Profit maximisation!
If I was bidding for a major project, I'd send LD as, more often than not, he closes the deal. I can send LCW to oversee the smaller ones
Disappointing answer by HR dept. Heard of : If you pay peanuts you get monkeys? The difference in remuneration is negligeable if the higher paid employee can bring in the profits.
