Participants complain over leaky arena The Jakarta Post, Surabaya Wahyoe Boediwardhana, | Thu, 02/24/2011 11:15 AM | Sports Keshya Nurvita Hanadia (left) of SGS PLN Bandung and Liliyana Natsir (right) of Tangkas Alfamart Jakarta, and referee discuss the wet court that resulted from a leaky rooftop at the DBL Sports Arena in Surabaya, East Java, on Wednesday, during a Djarum Badminton Superleague match. JP/Wahyoe Boediwardhana Heavy rains and a leaky DBL sports arena roof in Surabaya, East Java, caused slippery courts on Wednesday, which triggered complaints from participants of the Djarum Indonesian Superleague 2011. Two ongoing matches, which were played for nearly 20 minutes, were postponed following the leakage. SGS PLN Bandung women’s team coach Risev Rosalia said that the dripping water delay impacted on the shuttlers. SGS’ Keshya Nurvita Hanadia and Devi Tika Permatasari, doubles, were playing against Tangkas Alfamart Jakarta’s Liliyana Natsir and Chen Wen Hsing when the leak occurred. In the first set, Keshya and Devi were defeated 16-21 by Liliyana and Chen. Meanwhile in the second set, the SGS’ doubles managed to take over 21-17. The delay appeared to benefit the Tangkas’ doubles, finishing the game at a solid 21-11. “The uneasy situation definitely influenced our players. They were in a perfect mood for playing, but [in the rubber set] they had to start all over again,” Risev told The Jakarta Post. Shuttler Keshya dimmed the delay, adding that that the leak incident was the first thing to happen in her entire career. In overall matches, the victory unavoidably went to defending champion Tangkas with a 3-2 win from Chen Hsiao Huan who beat Elizabeth Purwaningtyas (21-16, 21-8), Liliyana and Chen, as well as Novalia Agustianti who defeat Siti Anida (21-11, 22-20). In the men’s team, Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia, who backed up SGS PLN Bandung, played for the first time in the league. He undoubtedly outclassed Adi Pratama of Jaya Raya Jakarta 21-14, 21-13. Chong Wei said that he had yet to feel comfortable in the league, adding that he had just arrived Wednesday morning in Surabaya after attending the China badminton league. “I just landed here. I have not felt the atmosphere of the competition,” Chong Wei told a post-match press conference. At the time of writing, SGS collected two winning points from Chong Wei and Hendry Kurniawan Saputra and Hendra A. Gunawan playing doubles who beat Jaya Raya’s Bona Septano and Rizky Deli Nugraha 21-14, 21-19.
Underdog Mutiara upsets defending champ Tangkas The Jakarta Post, Surabaya Wahyoe Boediwardhana, | Wed, 02/23/2011 11:58 AM | Sports New women’s squad Mutiara Bandung astonishingly outclassed defending champion Tangkas Alfamart Jakarta 3-2 on the third day of the 2011 Djarum Badminton Superleague in Surabaya on Tuesday. Mutiara also managed to overthrow favorite Djarum Kudus 3-2 on Monday. Mutiara Bandung women’s team coach Umar Djaidi said that hard work and strong will were the keys to defeating the two big teams. Umar had ordered his shuttlers to play hard. “I had asked them to play their best in order to at least reach the semi-finals round since the beginning. Most of my shuttlers are members of the national training camp for junior shuttlers,” Umar said. Most of Mutiara’s players felt uneasy when fighting against senior shuttlers, he said. “All of our players are under 21, so they are still very young.” The first team point for Mutiara was contributed by world No. 15 Cheng Shao Chieh. She managed to beat Tangkas’ Yip Pui Yin from Hong Kong 21-18, 21-14. Mutiara’s doubles Suci Rizky Andini and Dwi Agustiawati defeated Tangkas’ Endang Nursugianti and Natalia Poluakan in a rubber 14-21, 21-14, 21-17. The last victory was from Hera Desiana over Novalia Agustina of Tangkas Alfamart Jakarta 21-17, 21-16. Hera said that she was burdened with the fact that she took the role as the deciding player to help her team advance to next round. “But then I decided to play it loosely.” Hera looked to be more confident during the game and controlled Novalia’s play. On the men’s team, underdog and newly-formed squad Musica Champion Kudus managed to oust Jaya Raya Jakarta 3-2 from singles play. In the first match, Hafiz Hasyim of Musica defeated Adi Pratama in a rubber 24-26, 21-17, 21-16. The second winning team point was contributed by Pandu Dewantoro, who beat Hermansyah 23-21, 21-18. The deciding player Ahmad Rifai booked his team a spot in the next round after crashing Ichwan Noor Yudha 21-18, 21-16.
Host women team will meet Jaya Raya Jakarta in final The Jakarta Post, Surabaya Wahyoe Boediwardhana, , East Java | Fri, 02/25/2011 11:21 AM | Sports With a string of five consecutive wins at the Djarum Indonesian Superleague 2011, the host — Jaya Raya Suryanaga’s women team — has been predicted to outlast Jaya Raya Jakarta in the final match on Friday. “We have many foreign players who have formed a good combination with our young players so we are optimistic that we can win the final,” said Suryanaga’s women team manager Wijanarko Adimulya. The team said it hoped it could win the point from the first three singles matches where it will feature Dutch player Yao Jie who is world number 14, world number 48 Aprilia Yuswandari and Lidyawati Limanto. The Suryanaga is also hoping for another victory in the doubles as it has world number 10 pair Yao Lei and Shinta Muliasari of Singapore. Jaya Raya Jakarta, meanwhile, believes that it could steal one point from the first singles player Bellaetrix Manuputy and its best doubles players, Greysia Polii and Nadya Melati “We believe that our first singles and our doubles are the best,” said Jaya Raya Jakarta’s manager Sigit Pamungkas. Bellaetrix is expected to play loose against Suryanaga Surabaya, which is predicted to play its singles player Yao Jie of the Netherlands. In the men’s division, Suryanaga Surabaya also has a big opportunity to book its place in the final after defeating Musica Champion Kudus 4-1 in its fifth match. Singles Hu Yun of Hong Kong opened the Thursday match with a win over Hafiz Hashim of Malaysia who played for Musica Champion Kudus. The world number 16 Hu Yun defeat the Malaysian 21-17, 19-21, 24-21. Suryanaga Surabaya’s men's doubles Alvent Yulianto-Tri Kusharjanto also beat Musica’s Luluk Hadiyanto-Sigit Budiarto 21-12, 21-8. The Suryanaga men’s team will meet Tangkas Alfamart Jakarta on Friday to try book its final berth. Tangkas Alfamart Jakarta is standing in fifth position of the seven-team championships.
WS3, Aprilia Yuswandari def.Rizky Amelia Pradipta with 21-6 ; 21-11. Jaya Raya Suryanaga wins over Jaya Raya Jakarta 3-0, congrats
Suryanaga Jaya Raya completes the victory in the Women's Team after beating Jaya Raya 3-0, all in Singles. So, the recruitment of Yao Jie & Yao Lei/Shinta Mulia Sari have proven to be good values. Can they do a double with the Men's Team also winning? Suryanaga vs Tangkas is an intriguing affair: MS1 - Hu Yun vs Nguyen Tien Minh MS2 - Chan Yan Kit vs Simon Santoso MS3 - Fauzi Adnan vs P. Kasyhap --> Tangkas will need to secure all pts from Singles if they are to triumph. If that happens, it will be interesting to see who finishes second, as Suryanaga, Djarum, Tangkas will all finish with W4 L2.
