Alan Alan Alan, I told you to let the Dr. read the post. You clearly aren't intellectauly equipped to grasp the points of this discussion. Yet again you fail to grasp an essential point in this discussion. We said that cold water doesn't cause gastro this was in the context of the gastro being caused by the water being cold as opposed to being warm or hot. Anything you ingest has the potential to cause gastro if it is contaminated. Even if Lin Dan were really sick it would be difficult to pin it down to something as specific as cold water from a bottle. Anything he ingested would have the potential to cause issues. It's shocking you felt the need to consult a doctor on this matter when any 14 year old could tell you this. The fact that LD is blaming it on something so specific (if that is indeed the case) as water only adds to the suspicion that this is just a fabrication. A better question to ask your doctor is, if someone had gastro would they be prancing around in front of thousands of people at an awards cermony? I also see you managed to mangle the concept of statistical studies in your reply as well.
So, what should the media ask lindan this time? 1) Are you well equipped with water knowledge? 2) What other excuse do you think you will come up with in this tournament? lol.
Perhaps LD was wearing diapers while out there giving his excuses. Hey,, give the man the benefit of doubt. As I said before, he is a sick man. Always conceding WOs.
It's funny that all of a sudden, there are so many doctors/specialists out there commenting this and that. This is not a medical forum, if you don't believe LD was unwell, just say he's a lier. Everyone is different and if you don't get sick by doing what LD did, it simply means your body is different than LD's. Being a 'Legend' in the Badminton World, LD is surely different. But one thing for sure was that - he disappointed thousands of people in the stadium and millions of fans out there waiting to watch his match with CJ.
Singaporean spectators were not frustrated with just Lin Dan alone . I would say that the Singaporean spectators would not insist that Lin Dan should play for them when Lin Dan was sick. But many Singaporean Badminton fans do know that Chinese players have given walkovers to their teammates before, in the past recent years. When I heard that Singaporeans were booing at other CHN teammates, I realised that Singaporean spectators were not frustrated with just Lin Dan alone, but with the whole team from the Chinese Badminton Association (CBA). It is also known from comments from coach LYB before; saying that what CBA does is for their 'National Interest'. Therefore, when a final is between 2 CHN players, why play?; when it doesn't matter... because they have already won the top 2 positions. We can read into what is happening within CBA when we read this article, saying; Lin denied secret orders were behind his withdrawal. But he admitted that for China, the team was more important than individual players. "I feel the team's interest is just like a country's interest -- it's bigger than the individual," he said, according to the Straits Times. "In China, we're about team interest." It is been done for so many times, we do not need to debate about it, because it is obvious that China did this under "patriotism". When an athlete is train to scarifies theirs live like soldiers, they will ignore "sportsmanship". For this, i think BWF should do something, but just like FIFA who is the only federation in the world for the sport, they can do anything they like. Unlike boxing that have a number of federation. Maybe Singapore can start to build a new badminton federation called International Badminton Association
If Singapore can organise to form an International Badminton Association...... . If Singapore can organise to form an International Badminton Association, please do it for players and spectators, regardless of where they are from (especially for independent players). And also for the love of Badminton for Badminton's sake. Just leave 'National Interest' and/or 'Team Interest' out of the equation. .
super dan is a legend. if he is really not sick, then he won't say so. i am sure if he is well, definitely he will pay his heart out. this is because even though he is sick (i am sure all of us can relate how a stomach ache can really hurt us. in fact, it can be bad enough for many of us to get medical leave) instead he found inner strength to apologize to the fans and tried his best to walk around and give something back to them. for me, super dan is truly great.
Just to settle everything that has been said here, in my honest opinion and with all due respect to the BWF, I humbly suggest to change the rule regarding players asking for walk over. This applies whether the reason the player has is valid or not. The new rule must state: "A player withdrawing or asking for a walk over over the course of the tournament must be stripped of the points he is entitled to earn. If that player reaches the finals and wishes to withdraw, not only would he be stripped of the points but also the price money (2nd placer) he is about to receive. If and only if, the Finals opponent of that player belongs to his own National Team, that Finalist winner via default will receive the price money (champion) but both of them would be stripped of the Finals points they are entitled to earn." It is the duty of every badminton player to stay fit during the course of the tournament and if he won't be able to do that, he must suffer the consequences and not just walk away freely with it. If a player wins via default in the finals, he deserves to win at least the price but not the Finals points because he never earned it more particularly if it comes from his own Team mate.
Waw... He still can laugh?! After two days ago walkover and his reason was sick. Did he care about who had buy ticket just want to see him playing in final?
Excellent point! You have articulated what was always in the minds (and on the tongues) of many followers of the sport all over the world!
What....the......f%^$#*!!!!!! This is match fixing, and they openly admit it?!?! LYB probably places bets on who's going to win in full knowledge that he himself has rigged the match! This is unf*cking believable.
Believe! It happens in most pro sports around the world. Only difference in this case is, LYB is arrogant (or stupid or both) enough to more or less "justify" the process with his "patriotism" mumbo-jumbo. People like him give true patriotism everywhere a bad name!
We are not pleased with any player who gives Walkovers to fellow teammates . You must be a Lin Dan fan and you must think that we are bashing him. The answer is No, we are not bashing Lin Dan; We are not pleased with any player who gives Walkovers to fellow teammates". .
Seems like crappy sportsmanship and highly unethical and pathetic behaviour happens in all levels of the sport huh Chris. Very depressing. You know, in ANY other sport, if someone openly admits to match fixing, they get absolutely reamed by the governing body and banned, fined heavily, or both. In Badminton it seems, everyone just shrugs their shoulders like it's acceptable behaviour. It's no wonder then that bad behaviour in this sport is endemic.
One wonders why BWF can't do anything about this rampant 'walkover' thing or is it more of close one eye?
The IBF thinks or knows that (or pretends to assume) China is a major player in badminton arena and hence is a power source for generating ticketing money. With that said, IBF is also a businessman and not a true sport association in the fullest sense.
