Coach wants Chong Wei to wipe smile off Chinese players’ faces

Coach wants Chong Wei to wipe smile off Chinese players’ faces

    Excerpt:

China are grinning from ear to ear after receiving a favourable draw in the men’s singles event of the World Badminton Championships.

But national coach Tey Seu Bock is banking on Malaysia’s world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei and other top stars to wipe the smile off their faces when the action begins in Wembley from Aug 8-14.

He said that China are not only incredibly strong this year but have been quite lucky with the draw.

2011 World Championships: Chen Long and Chen Jin are to tire LCW out

    .
It's true when Tey Seu Bock said that "Chen Long and Chen Jin will surely go the distance to try and beat Chong Wei. And if they can’t, then they will at least try to stretch him and tire him out.”

I think the priority will be for them to play to win. Only then can they increase their ranking points. If along the way, they lose to LCW and tire him out, that's a bonus.

LCW will certainly need to be on top of his game right through. But he has the stamina and skill. As he said, its just like any other tournament. You play x days and y opponents to get to the finals. It shouldn't matter which country those opponents come from, just as long as he beats them. Any other opponent from any other country would also be trying his hardest to scalp LCW, so there's nothing really different... :)

    A tremendous Machine

Here is an edited clip from the AE2009 finals.

This always brings to my mind the immortal line spoken live on air, by Chic Anderson, while reporting for CBS at the 1973 Belmont Stakes, which Secretariat won, along with the Triple Crown....

"He is moving like a TREMENDOUS machine!"

It sure looks that way. But if a player is sent to wear out Lcw it could be different. :D

If a player is really good enough to wear out LCW, he is probably good enough to beat him! :D

    Not necessarily, cobalt. :)

    It's a different strategy

but he must win the first or the second set.

His mission is to wear down opponent

and of course its a bonus if he can beat him :D.

    pBm, here's what I think:

There was a time when LCW's game was based on the foundation of his awesome defensive abilities. He could not readily change the pace of the rally or go on the offensive (Gillian Clark's "sudden injection of pace") or be truly deceptive whenever he wished. All that has changed.

Over the past 18 months or so, we have observed his confidence growing to the extent that he now "knows" he has the ability to control the game against almost every opponent he faces. He is not worried. And therefore, if he (and his coach and support team) has ascertained that a particular player (lets say, a China player who is not really in his league) is sent out with instructions to "wear down LCW" then he has the game to ensure that does not happen. He will wrap up the match quickly, no matter what. He has the firepower, speed, deceptive shots, ability to change gears without notice... the complete package.

His only weakness is his mind, and the mind has only the past as a reference to base another person's ability on. If he stops second-guessing his main opponent, he will win the WC.

Edit: his main opponent has 3 heads, but it does not matter: he still has only one racquet hand and only 2 legs! Same as LCW... :D

    Anyway we shouldn't underestimate lyb,

    this fella is cunning :D

What if lyb uses psychological warfare

knowing the only weakness Lcw has is in his mind LOL

Remember the "tai chi badminton" thread? :D LCW must remember that 2 can always play that game.

LD's single constant thread in any game strategy, has been to "disturb the flow."

LCW has shown over the past year that he has also been equally adept at executing that strategy, against all opponents. LCW has the other physical advantages of speed and defense where LD appears to have definitely waned.

IMO there are only a couple of real points LCW must keep in mind, tactic-wise, if he does meet up with LD.

LD has employed the tactic of keeping within striking distance of his faster opponents through the third game, then he puts everything he has into the rallies once they reach the 15-point mark, and opens a 3-4 point lead. This has the result of stunning the opponent, who then just mostly kinda gives up the rest of the 2-3 points, and the match.

LCW must remember to win the point, and not wait for LD to lose the point, every point. If he plays to his full abilities, I have a feeling he can overwhelm LD this time around. Again, its in the mind. He must feel the same confidence in his own abilities as when he plays against TH, or PG, or CL or anyone else. And use his skills, deceptions, changes of pace, the whole package. There is the key; and the result is to sow the seeds of doubt and confusion in the opponent's mind. And he has done that in the recent past! Now that is a change! :D

lcw lost the 1st set of asian games and korea open due to he too eager to win points and the 1st set
lin dan basically only won 6 point by himself,15 point by lcw mistake on attack;)

however,he looks to overcome it in all england
but since i dont think lin dan will reach final of world championship
lcw will win world champ if he play like how he play in usual super series, regardless opponent

I did not really watch AG in detail; but at KO I thought he was in a way, trying too hard to impress LD; trying too hard to prove something. I think he has learnt now that he does not need to "prove" anything to anyone anymore.

Exactly the point I had made earlier! :)

    Psychological warfare

    .
I am reminded of LYB shouting loudly from court-side in a match to his player 'to break LCW's legs'. He shouted loud enough for LCW to hear it. To me, this is definitely a psychological warfare; to disturb LCW's concentration.

Don't know if LYB would do it at this coming 2011 World Championships? :D:D:D
