Although you are right, but the fact is world class players like LD and LCW are beginning to be able to read PG's game and anticipate his shots much earlier. PG's game tactics has not really changed much over the years.

First of all, WBF should comprehend that they can NOT pack the players from the same country in the same half!
In order of priority, "Country of Origin" should have higher order than the World Ranking or Seeded Position alone!
Players from the same country should be distributed more evenly between the two pools (halves)!

    Generalisation is not always right.
Maybe the guys in BWF are just the seat warmer types, no need to elaborate much on this.
We need new management team to make things right.

that's an interesting argument, but there are two sides to it.

if it is indeed an individual tournament, then why do we need to even look at the player's country of origin when placing the players? we should be country blind and just place them all randomly.

but wait, that's the way it is today, after BWF made the change to remove separating countries.

so what's China/LYB's problem with it?

their problem is that the rule was there before and BWF removed it specifically to control China's strength. while it is great for other countries, it makes no sense for an international sports body to make/remove rule specifically to contain one of their members country, let alone the strongest one.

so what's LYB/China to do? they come up with these tactics to get back at BWF. if you want my players to play each other early? then they won't play, or they won't play complete/competitively.

is it wise? probably not, but to LYB's eyes, he is arrogant enough to not care about how fans thinks. fans obviously not gonna like it.

it is wise for BWF? no. they are stupid enough to think that China/LYB will be a little sheep and follow their rules to the dot. not LYB. and now BWF is losing credibility for being weak.

so in the end, who lose? we as fans loses out. then we go and blame BWF/China for it. China don't care, as their paycheck depends on their ultimate performance in WC/Olympics. BWF cannot care, as they are powerless on this matter.

Thank you Kwun for taking time to write down and clarify... now i do grasp the underlying issues: the intentional removal of country separation from the seeded positions from the pool placement.

Badminton world should reflect upon the table tennis realities...no matter how ITTF has been trying to tweak the so many rules and regulations over years to contain the powers & strengths of China Team, eventually they are still dominating the sport as it is today.

Well at least we all agree on one point: Whether it's BWF can't do anything or don't want to or don't know how to address; it all point to one thing - Nothing is being done for some time now.

How come this problem does not appear in tennis? Because tennis is more individual-orientated, or because it has different rules, or because individual events and team events are more clearly separated? I don't know, but for sure a solution for this problem is not out of reach if BWF really cares about it.
But whatever this solution could be (perhaps a tread should be open for suggestions), it should not be designed just to limit CHN's influence. CHN's strengths have to be challenged on the courts.

Maybe we should look at it at a win-win point of view. Wait for other countries to catch up with many participants. Then use the strategy like LYB too. If you can't win them, join them. Then when BWF see its getting rampant and being abuse, and more and more fans are disgruntled, then the system will be revamped to a better one.

    Then it's finally done.

Well said Pakito! Wait until other countries are able to catch up with many and strong players (so not only in terms of quantity but also quality), then they will be able to deploy such strategy to their advantages! For right now only China Team has such capability on most of the occasions.

Haha perhaps you can wait till you weigh an ounce ;). If badminton get's cut from the Olympics, funding for so many countries/players will be dropped or minimized ...
But who knows it might actually kickstart some professionalism ...

As I read in some tennis history, if not for the Olympic status there wouldn't be any Sharapova (& co from the Iron Curtain) today and it might be practically dead as well.

tennis is very different, as you said. they are individual. not only are the training individual, the prize money individual, the fans are also very individual. case to point, i have heard of names like Hewitt, Sampras, Nadal, etc. but to be honest to you, i have no idea which country they represent. Tennis is *that* individual.

the root of the problem is two:

    - China is dominating
    - BWF is idiotic and powerless.

if you remove one or both condition, then the should not be such problem anymore...

Here's the thing. When in an individual sport, the notion of associating with a country takes on less importance. It's just that we have been brainwashed in badminton into the need of supporting a country.

BTW, Sampras = USA, Hewwitt = AUS, Nadal = ESP. Any other questions? :p

I think BWF really needs China, their main job is to promote badminton. Who are the stars? most are from China, not to discount Malaysia, Indonesia, Denmark, Korea, etc. But we have to admit badminton icon country today is China. If somehow this country show some action like refuse to take part for any international matches like SS, OG, etc. The image of badminton in this world would be greatly discounted. Imagine no more OSIM sponsorship.
No one will go to stadium and buy ticket to watch badminton, no one will turn on their TV for matches cos no commercial sponsorships. Maybe i have exaggerated a bit here. But i am trying to say, BWF needs powerhouse country like China. Having them weakened by using bwf points doesn't help much.
Btw, ex national player Li Ling Wei is an executive inside BWF.

he likes to argued with the umpire decision when he is losing.
    you never seen that?
i mean everyone argued before but he is kind of acting and trying to influence the umpire.
China master 2009 is a good example.

like yesterday during match against LCW. Peter went up and yelled at the umpire to tell him: "wake up!" when PG thinks that the umpire should've called the receiver.

that's not much better than Serena Williams.
