He lost in R1 last year as well so the only way was up as far as WR was concerned ... The big points to defend are coming up in the next 3 tournaments (although of course it doesn't really matter where you grab them). Though early WC exit should have cost him dearly already yet he is still seeded 5th and WR #5?
I have been talking about this for 3 months now... In this same thread, read post #872 http://www.badmintoncentral.com/for...ufik-Hidayat?p=1708398&highlight=#post1708398 also, post #881 http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php/33027-Taufik-Hidayat?p=1720343#post1720343
I'm not sure how I missed this article that was first published in May of this year. Here it is, a nice interview with Taufik... ‘I am building my after-badminton life’ Niken Prathivi, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Wed, 05/04/2011 10:15 PM http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2011/05/04/‘i-am-building-my-after-badminton-life’.html Excerpts: While many veterans and legends in one of the most popular sports in the country struggle to build their lives after retiring from badminton, Taufik is preparing a post-badminton career that looks bright. ...Taufik’s world took a slight turn from its boisterous track when he married Amy Gumelar — the daughter of politician and sportsman Agum Gumelar and Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Linda Amalia Sari — in 2006. And now Taufik is the proud father of daughter Natarina Alika Hidayat and son Nayutama Prawira Hidayat. “My ambition [in badminton] is no longer as high as it used to be,” Taufik told The Jakarta Post recently. “It is because I have reached most of world titles. Now, I am pursuing my career in personal life… how to build a good family and grow my business,” he said. ...“Even so, I’m not planning to retire in the near future,” he said, adding that Yonex even extended their sponsorship of Taufik until 2014. ...Taufik, who decided to quit the national training camp in 2009, has prepared for his post-badminton career by establishing his own management group called the Taufik Hidayat Force. Gaining support from family and management, Taufik started his arena project in 2010. ...The arena hired Taufik’s coach, Mulyo Handoyo, and several of Indonesia’s top players such as Vita Marissa and Nova Widianto to provide various training sessions for patrons, including for those coming from out town or overseas. The idea of this arena came up in 2007-2008, said Taufik. “It is also a gift for my parents, who have been dreaming of having their own badminton courts.” ...The idea of becoming a politician has crossed Taufik’s mind. “But, I considered myself a straightforward person, as in being a competitive kind of way, which is an easy target to get rid of,” he said. “As for badminton, I will always support the development of the sport as long as I can. But being PBSI chief? Not now, but who knows about someday in the future,” added the recipient of Indonesia’s First Class Merit Star (Bintang Jasa Utama) in 2005. The support also applies to the national team in world tournaments, said the winner of the 2006 Doha Asian Games, as long as he still has his ability and was in the solid layer of players. “If I am in the second or third layer, retiring is a sure thing.”
retiring at 2011 is not bad at all for taufik. the magic and glory is gone (gone too soon to be exact), he's now a mediocre player and anyone could defeat him relatively easy and that's not something to be proud of
It is indeed sad to see TH's change of fortunes at the age of 30 years. Maybe, PHG could give him some tips.
just thinking that he'll be retiring soon makes burst into tears. i've been his fans since i was 9 years old, i hope i can still watch him play at least until olympic. although it's hard watch him constantly defeated but i feel like i'm not ready watch badminton without him. :crying::crying::crying:
Taufik Hidayat is still ranked No.1 in Indonesia . Your wish of watching Taufik playing at the 2012 Olympics will come true. Taufik is still ranked No.1 in Indonesia and No.5 in the world. .
He just lost to Axelsen in Denmark Open. Even if Taufik compete in the Olympics I dont think he'll go through the first round. Sad to say about such a great player
This is a sentiment I share with you, and maybe millions of other fans. But I have also come to terms with the reality that Taufik is more prone to have bad days now, than good days. So I will treasure those good days even more! I am just grateful I live in a time when it is possible for me to say, I watched Taufik play.
I feel that if he is not that motivated to win nowadays. He played maybe because he loves badminton. I still see a few of his good moves now and then but he lacks the determination to win as compared to the past. I will also miss his glorious days. Of course I do hope that he could at least keep his ranking before he goes for OG next year. Hope that he will continue his dream to keep discovering new talents in Indonesia because their way of moving on court is unique.
I feel the same. Taufik Hidayat doesn't look as if he has any injuries except the knee problems that he has had for a long while. His mental ability is lacking
