If you read the original article, he's basically complaining about the generous pts offered for Qualifying. Chen Jin could have won 6876 pts (that's guaranteed) by simply just playing 1 match and lost it. Of course, the system is applied to all the players (including Japanese players)
This just tells you how professional BWF is. Sick. As pjswift wrote: the phrase "the Asian Team Championships 2012" was hidden and only present in some of the doc and xls files (Note: even the invitation letter to all BAC members did not have that particular phrase)!
Would you , offhand, know what the ranking points were, in the past, before BWF made it generous to help desperate CJ ( indirectly and effectively LD) this year? (We know CHN don t have the confidence to win the MS gold without fielding maximum 3 MS ; one CHN MS to maximise energy loss from LCW would not be enough, CHN require another CHN MS to help minimise energy loss from LD so the net outcome would be LD would have energy advantage over LCW should they meet in final. But if MAS is smart enough to arrange for a pocket of crowd support like in KO12, LD would not have any energy advantage since it s not held in China.) In any case, PG would not have any ranking points from the Europe Qualifying since he did not even play a match. Does PG monitor his ranking points or he just gave up on BWF, I wonder?
if it is a asian team championship why china dont field jiang yan jiao in final?suffer another lost in final since 2010uc is not acceptable for such a majorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr championshipppppppppppppppppp!
Everyone will know what their ranking pts were and Park Joo Bong himself explained it clearly in his rants. "I don't understand why BWF is offering so many points for the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup qualifying rounds. It doesn't make sense for the China to play in the qualifying rounds after they have secured automatic berths for the two events as hosts," said Joo Bong. "The points offered are too high for a qualifying round and win or lose, a player or a doubles pair will earn 10 per cent of their total world ranking points." In fact, Peter Gade probably knew that the pts won from Sudirman Cup (7602.55) could be higher than that could be won from the European Championships this year (base pt is 7386.20). That's why he did not bother to play in the European Championships.
The system for Team Events benefit players with high points (like LCW). Even for LCW....he could just show up and lose every match and earns 9759.73 pts from this Thomas Cup Qualification. That itself is higher than and therefore, will definitely replace the pts earned from Sudirman Cup (9647.30). Everyone knows that this system has its flaws and there had been debates in many threads in the past about this issue. The problem is: BWF still retains this system for team events and has yet to do anything about it!
Maybe CHN is confident JPN won t be able to upset like KOR did. But they forgot Eriko has a good record against CHN WS though poor against non-CHN WS. In any case, WD2 and the mesmerising MM is totally new syllabus so there was no opportunity for rote training. Lack of consistency plus lack of rote training spell disaster for CHN. It s how CHN lost that s revealing. They lack mental strength and collapse in a mess when opponents adopt tactics and take initiative to dictate play.
You mean PG can still use his Sudirman Cup to add to his Olympics qualifying points. Wouldn't the SC points expire by then?
Why not? The Sudirman Cup is still within the Qualifying period (May 2011 to Apr 2012). So, for eligibility purpose, it still counts. If the Sudirman Cup pts for any player/pair is higher than that from the TUC qualifying, the higher pts will still be retained in the total ranking.
And CJ did not have any SC pts because he did not play. Does the Olympics qualifying specify that only one Team tournament ranking pts can be counted? So PG can only choose SC or TUC Qualifying points, but not both?
World Team Ranking (as at 02-Feb-2012) . cxytdn posted the World Team Ranking on 03-Feb-2012. Here is the link; http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php/107583-World-Team-Ranking-2012-02-02 .
Waste Not, Want Not PJB complains because the opportunity to gain points is very much higher than before (even when players lose), not because he does not know the opportunity to do so was always there before, but the generosity of the points that can be earned so easily even if you lose. However, on the other side of it is that BWF probably allows this to make a tournament event 'hotter' when it entices high ranking players to participate as it offers much points to reap from. This in turn will boost ticket sales. Sadly, the environment during the Uber Cup finals were lacking in spectators and far more conducive for swatting flies even though the battle between Japan's Eriko and Liu Xin was extremely exciting for me to watch. I still think it is unfair to other countries to allow a host nation to reap points just from playing preliminary rounds. Even if it is allowed, please don't do so by allowing them to reap so much points. It's a preliminary round for heaven's sake. On the other hand, players like Koo Kien Keat fielded to play for fun (happily clowning around) must surely have a blast (not necessarily grateful for the opportunity to play) playing against Dionisius Rumbaka. This a waste of crucial opportunity (both matches lost under 10 threshold) for other up and coming young players like Zulfadli Zulkifli to enrichen their skills and experience that could surely sharpen their badminton spears to lead the nation in the near future. What a waste. Like I mentioned before in the 'theory of plants applied to badminton', the soil for growing badminton is akin to the experience of playing in a tournament like Thomas Cup. It was wise to finally let Darren and Arif to let them dip their feet into the hot water of TC but what about others? Don't they deserve a chance to play too? Isn't the fact that the match played by KKK was just a squandered opportunity for others sitting at the benches who longed and endeared to play? Heck, if I was the golden boy of a certain under 16 group champion, i'd begged my coach to give me a chance rather than seething with hatred watching KKK had his comedic performance which he will forget once he goes to the bathroom to relieve himself! Well maybe the coaches wanted KKK to run it out and practice his endurance in a men's singles match. Other issues like the complete ignorance of flight availability to Macau until BAM realized at the 11th hour, Hendrawan's presence which could have helped and mentor yoyo HH to win, BAM stating that they need more officials and manpower to handle the players' miscellaneous needs but left Arif stranded at the airport without the necessary documentations, only fuels and cements the fact that BAM's vision is indeed myopic. Whether this myopic vision is on the extreme or just in need of a slight fine-tuning with the magic screwdriver is very much debatable.
There are only 4 singles players and 6 doubles players, max that can participate. Unless they dont bring Hafiz at all, which could mean Msia dont qualify. Bf the tourney, most of us were doubtful of the 2nd MD ability to win a pt since its their 1st time. This time the coaches chose the right young pair.On Hendrawan, I agree, they gave the funny reason that Hendrawan had to stay back & coach the back up. Haiseh, Roslin & other assistant coach cannot do that for 1 week?
BWF has an official team ranking, which is different from the one calculated by cxytdn. http://www.bwfbadminton.org/page.aspx?id=18740
I like cxytdn s version because it s more colourful. But the numbers between the two versions are different. Which is correct ?
I trust cxytdn's posts more than BWF's news/releases . You like the colours. Knowing how our BCer, cxytdn, follow our Badminton tournaments, I trust cxytdn's posts more than BWF's news/releases. .
