They defeated the best 4 pairs from INA and KOR and won the Germany Open. Do they deserve a thread?

Thanks Kwun. Both players given names are not common in Chinese. You are very good and educated at Chinese.

I totally agree with you Alan. Hong Wei has great potential. If they win the All England and India, they could end up with top 8 in the ranking, and also possibly replace Cai Biao/Guo Zhendong for th Olympics.

i am just copy and pasting. :)

but also interesting that both players' lastname/surname have water on it, but the given names are fueled with fire, brilliance, and glory.

You are right, I found that too, after you posted the name in Chinese.

By looking at their Chinese names, I found out a very astonishing fact: both family names are water, and both given names are fire.

"Hong Wei" means huge water with glowing fire flame

"Shen Ye" means: deep water with glorious fire flame.

Is this coincidence or arranged by God?

But chinese MD always lack of consistency, I don't think they can win back to back titles. But, I hope they prove me wrong. :D

Yes, from what i observed in the MAS OPEN earlier this year, his smash is insanely powerful. Noticed that all of his opponent have problem retrieve his smashes well.. But then, i have no answer for their loss to the taiwan pair in the QF, which left me in awe.Maybe because of their inconsistency? Me and my buddy calls this guy 'a one shot' guy... Due to his winning smash in just 1 shot..:D

LOL, Chinese MD loves to play with names. Cai Yun + Fu Hai Feng = Wind + Cloud. Mere coincidence and/or superstition?

That's true. 2 Years ago I watch them played against KKK and THB.. Man his smash is powerful!! He has a very good smashing technique. he is not a big guy but his ability to execute a smash that is so powerful for his size is incredible!!

Hong Wei/Shen Ye is by far the most dynamic chinese doubles i have seen for a long time.. CY/FHF is playing mixed all the time..

Watching this pair play actually reminds me of the Koreans. Very dynamic, very powerful. No clearly dominant front or back court player. Haven't watched them as much as other pairs, but they seem to be the natural successors to CY/FHF. I think China's MD dept has finally produced a gem after waiting so long since CY/FHF emerged.
They still need to work on consistency and patience. Like a lot of emerging young pairs, they just anyhow try to kill everything. At the moment, it also seems that there isn't much tactics involved in their play, just speed and power. I'm sure that will come with time. In their haste, they do lose quite a bit of points. The counter-argument is that their enthusiasm does catch a lot of their opponents off-guard also la.
