I am not sure whether this tournament really needs to be played over the Olympics Qualifying Period. It may just hamper the chances of players like Tommy Sugiarto or Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan or Hendra A. Gunawan/Alvent Yulianto Chandra from qualifying to the Olympics as the schedule is really quite punishing for them!

This is how the calendar will look like for these players:
    03/13-03/18 Swiss Open GPG
    03/23-03/25 Axiata Cup
    03/31-04/02 Axiata Cup
    04/03-04/09 Australia Open GPG*
    04/13-04/15 Axiata Cup
    04/17-04/22 BAC*
    04/24-04/29 India Open SS

In particular, it will affect some of the players' preparation for the Australia Open and the BAC (both are GPG-level tourneys) as they need to fly to Sydney & Wuhan just 1-2 days before these tourneys start.

Remember, there will only be 3 tourneys left for these players to collect pts after the Swiss Open GPG!

The affected ones are: Simon, Taufik, Tommy, Bona-Ahsan, Hendra-Kido, Alven-AG... Personally, I don't think their chances of getting the Olympic gold are that good... So, better make use of their time getting prize money... :D

Our best shot at getting the Olympic gold is still: Lily-Tontowi... furthermore, Greysia-Meliana/Vita-Nadya and Firda/Febe/Linda are all not involved in Axiata Cup. So, no difference for them... :p

Yeah. I do agree with you.. For all INA players except Towi/Butet shall take part in Axiata cup since there is no difference for them to train hard for OG2012 preparation when the time is just around the corner.. too late....

Towi/Butet should concentrate more on their training, stamina building, & technique smoothness....
No point wasting time & energy for prize money where you can make a history in just several months to go...

IMHO, the GARUDA Team is the strongest.

It's more than half expected that GARUDA will win the inaugural event of this tournament.

I'm just guessing, but probably because Axiata is mostly in SEA, I've never heard of them before.
