I thought I saw couple of Chinese players being seeded to join Japan 2012. It seems like none of them is in the tournament though. Did they withdraw or something?

Yup, all going to LIN DAN's wedding this Sunday 23/09/2012 - same day as Japan Open Final ... :p BTW, Lee Chong Wei told Lin Dan he is flying over to Lin Dan's wedding bash as soon as he wins it hahahha ... talk about high confidence !!:D

Seriously, Chinese players were instructed to "boycott" Japan Open due to ongoing POLITICAL DISPUTE over Diaoyu / Senkaku islands ...

The whole chinese team was withdrew from Japan open. This was unheard of in the past. I think LYB try his very best to keep Lin Dan for a few more years by doing Lin Dan such a big favour. I heard the head coach LYB will be the chairman for his wedding ceremony. In my opinion, Lin Dan's wedding could also be used to promote the popularity of badminton in China.

seriously the boycott thing is just anti china bs. the chinese basketball team didnt boycott the asian cup in japan nor are tennis players in upcoming tokyo open. the whole bad team skipped japan open cuz of the wedding plus they are just too super tired from all the non stop olympic activities and need some rest. its not the first time whole china team skipped a super series event.

In Chinese tradition, "registered" doesn't mean "married". "Wedding ceremony" means "married". :)

By the way, I'm still thinking how LCW can attend LD's wedding. Assume his match ends at 2pm. He will need to go to the airport (1/2 hour?), check in and boarding (1 hour), fly to Beijing (3 1/2 hours), go through Custom (1 hr), and drive to the Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium (1 hour). I bet the earliest he can arrive is 9pm.

On the contrary, kenjai7373 is being sharp in his observations. That s five seconds of foolish research you ve done. What CBA gave as the reason for boycott, was just an excuse, not the real truth. Their players are in bad shape. CM used to be a tournament where Team CHN just stroll through and sweep. This year turned out to be a nightmare. CHN players fell like flies in their homeground. What with WSX, AG champion and LXR, OG champion, being stunned by non-CHN youngsters, it indicates those rote trained champions are rudderless without their coaches intensive guidance. And then, CL not only has to play one match less, to defeat LCW, he also has to play one match less, in order to be sure of taking out Hu Yun, a MS many ranks below him. in that state, if CL, the play-one-match-less champion, and WSX and LXR were to play in JO, they could be crushed in front of the JPN crowd. Politics isn t the real reason, it s the timely, convenient excuse. The truth is CHN will withdraw when defeat is in sight.

His "sharp observation" is that the CHN team skipped the event in order to attend a wedding which is complete nonsense. Of course, compared to your paranoid anti-China diatribe, he looks coldly rational.

so it looks like there are 3 potential reasons for them skipping Japan Open:

    - China/Japan tension - citing player safety
    - attending Lin Dan / Xie Xingfang wedding
    - players in poor form

maybe the combination of all of them is the reason? the official and most diplomatic excuse is player safety, coz no one is going to admit they are in poor form, and missing a SS tournament for a wedding seems ridiculous despite the bride and groom being one of the most recognizable sportspersons in the country.

If the Chinese are in poor form then every other country's form is in a state of disaster.

Now I understand what our moderator drifit meant the other day when he said "resurrection of a previously harmony breaker" (sic). One goes out,the other comes in. Wonder what's the justification and criteria:confused:

If China didn't pull out of the JPN Open and went on to win a number of the titles available, some people would be as usual very unhappy. And when they absent themselves for whatever reasons, justifiable or not it's their right, thereby presenting the ROW a golden opportunity to fight for the coveted titles, the same group of people are raising a hue and cry over it.

Apparently it doesn't matter what CHN did, though this time the worsening political situation does indeed threaten to escalate into something we all don't want to see - as long as and whenever there is the slightest pretext to bash China, these guys would never let it go gleefully.

Are the ROW players, esp the fortunate winners complaining and lamenting the absence of the Chinese contingent? Ask them how many would have entertained the thought that they could be standing onto the winners' podium of a Superseries (Lee CW excepting) if not for the Chinese withdrawal even when she doesn't send their full force. So what if their withdrawal was for political consideration, strategic reason, players' safety, Lin Dan's wedding, mere excuses (their top players in poor form and euphoric after the Olympic clean sweep), etc. probably a combination of them? Even if they did send their original contingent over and failed to win a single title, what's the big deal? Who will be so concerned or gloating over it? Fret not, even when CHN sends their second stringers, as proven time and again, the ROW won't have it easy.

In school exams, the more so at college/university level, we know how much rote learning can do for us - pass grade not a problem but to excel is a different story. Haven't those eminent academics been drumming into our thick heads that rote learning alone is not enough if we want to be among the very best? Otherwise, back to badminton, how come there are so few Lin Dans, Lee CWs, LXRs, WYHs, CYs/FHFs, YYs/WXLs, ZNs/ZYLs in the world spread across continents? Even having great coaches alone is not the be-all and end-all as the legendary Grand Master Tang Xianhu used to say:ultimately it's the players themselves that count, the coach can only do so much.

In the CHN Masters, the CHN players fell like files and yet swept all the titles, how do you reconcile that? LXR's stunning defeat by Sindhu soon after her earlier one by Lu Lan in CBSL was disastrous, really? Why was she the only gold medallists not rested, playing in the CBSL (maybe acceptable) and the CM immediately following when even the great Lee CW gave it a miss (though he played in the CBSL) and Saina, the bronze OG winner by default, doing likewise including the JPN Open? By the way, Li YB actually praised Sindhu's performance and noted her potential.

As for Chen Long, it's not just that he won the CHN Masters but how he played, objectively speaking. If you want to make much of his benefit of the walkover conceded by Du PY even disregarding or doubting his reason for doing so, up to you. It remains a fact that Chen Long not too long ago was the first and only player apart from Lin Dan to have beaten Lee CW not once but three times in a row. I believe his form is coming back and he truly deserves that trophy and soon this forum will be talking a lot more about him, perhaps gushing over and heaping praises on him by quite a few here.

I say all this simply as a matter of fact. On the other hand, I'd be most happy to see a few ROW players rising to challenge the Chinese dominance for the sake of badminton as a whole, not for any one country. Precisely, there is a clear difference between a badminton fan and enthusiast/lover of the sport. Sad to say, there are a few who joined this forum for selfish, ulterior, and even morally reprehensible motives.

Justin, let me summarise your long, oblique response to my post. 1) any criticism of CHN is opportunistic bashing. 2) none of the JO champions( except LCW) would have been, if Team CHN had turned up. 3) even if CHN were to just send their second stringers, ROW would still not have it easy.4) CHN players fell like flies in CM yet still sweep? 5) CL s great because he beat LCW three times in a row? 6)Any forumer who thinks like you is a badminton fan. The few who don t ( worship CHN) have unwelcome motives. 1) You can t swallow some hard CHN truths, even when backed up by research. 2) even if CHN players had turned up for JO, they would have fallen because they were in such bad shape, they couldn't be lifted by the home crowd in CM. In JO, they would have no crowd to energise them. The JO champions would likely be the same ones. 3) Check previous tournament results. If CHN send just second stringers, CHN wins WD. 4) How can CHN not sweep CM? Some 25% of all participants are CHN, and powered further by home crowd. Mathematically, the odds are in their favour, ok individually, hard to break when banded and relayed across the tournament. 5) How did CL beat LCW? With the luck to play one match less? 6) You want this forum to have just the likes of you? Your wish will come true sooner than you think. Your posts average 25% of total in any thread involved. Add on your echo mates, any casual visitor would think you own the forum. You can have your wish. All the best.

This thread is about the reason why the Chinese team is absent from the Japan open. The need for some members of this forum to constantly pollute any thread they can with anti-China spam is getting quite boring. Seriously PJ, rather than making any anti-China argument all your posts argue for is your need for serious therapy.

The idea that the Chinese team is somehow fearful of competing based on the CM, a tournament in which the Chinese team swept the events, is bat $hit crazy.

I guess you're right. It's reported that Lee CW didn't make it to Lin Dan's wedding after all. http://www.badmintonlink.com/Read-News/Lin_Dan_finally_says_I_Do_to_Xingfang
