I thought Kashyap is signalling a comeback of sorts but Takuma survives a scare to win G2 and is back in business. Anyway, it has recently become clear the Indian youngsters are outperforming their seniors.

It's been a bad day for Singapore, not only on the badminton courts but also outside in the open. Singapore is engulfed by the Sumatran HAZE, which has bedeviled us for a decade and has grown the worst today. Frankly, if the haze pollution is from Singapore, our government will take immediate action to stop it before it deteriorates. Certainly not allow it to get worse for ten years or more. It affects people's health, the economy and bring productive activities to a standstill. I just hope the planes at Changi Airport are not affected. As I write the psi is above 280, considered a hazardous level! I'm afraid our badminton visitors, especially those from overseas will not be able to enjoy the air and sights, and the best that Singapore has to offer. My apologies. I'm sure attendance at the SIS for the rest of the tournament will be adversely affected. I was at the SIS this afternoon and when I left a few hours later the haze caught me as well. The cool aircon comfort that I enjoyed earlier was completely taken over by the hot, humid and dusty air that burns the eyes and itches the throat. I buried the thought of returning to the SO for the evening session. Not that I like the "new" interior appearance of the SIS with its darkened atmosphere and new spot lights shining into my eyes and spoil my view of the action on court. I have closed all my windows and allowed as little wind to come into my flat, yet my eyes and throat still hurt. So I have to resort to drinking more plain water. Yes this Singapore Open will be remembered, but for the wrong reasons I'm afraid.

Good day for the Japanese MS but at the expense of some of the India one's. Both Takuma and Tago had previously had trouble with their opponents before this tournament.
I believe her current ranking of 24 is not reflective of her true strength as her rise is so recent,less than six months. I regard her as JPN WS No.1 and potentially a top 10 player. Good to see Carolina Marin finally going to make the climb up for I think she carries Europe's hope in the near future. I feel she'll give WYH a run for her money tomorrow seeing as WYH's form is suspect.
Takahashi was playing quite bad against Marin today, especially in the 1st set. I think she was tired/jetlagged or something. She was making all kinds of errors and showed a lot of negative body language as well. First time I see something else than her otherwise wonderful positive fighting mode. Better in the 2nd set but she was never able to threaten Carolina Marin. I think she might have struggled with the fact that she was playing another lefty, too. Marin dealt with that better. I love Sayaka Takahashi and I hope our wish comes true that she will be top 10 soon!!
As much as I like Sayaka Takahashi, she is perhaps over-rated by the fans. The 24th rank is about right. She has accomplished a lot in recent months and well deserved of all the attentions and praises. But Sayaka Takahashi is just a young up-and-comer. As her competitors take notice, she will run into a "wall". It will be a few more ups and downs before we know who she truly is. Just look at how Wang ShiXian struggles, and she was the No. 1 player in the World not too long ago.
