Thinking LD may not be intereted in promoting badminton? How about BWF? Why Canada and the U.S.? Who is broadcasting? http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLA7ZcagI0frApLWJdhOSdn26UAlnyKzPX - Brunei - Canada - Germany *delays available - Hong Kong - Macau - Malaysia - United States - Caribbean countries and... Live streaming and delays of this event are not available in India until 12 February 2014, and in Russia until 12 August 2014
The part you didn't quote was that which was directly above that list of countries: Due to media rights or government internet restriction, live streaming and delays of Wang Lao Ji BWF World Championships 2013 are not available in the following countries until 12 August 2013: It is not that the BWF hates certain counties, or flips a coin as to whom they will annoy with a black-out. It is down to media rights and lawyers. Contracts are contracts. __ But it certainly does stick in one's craw that Canada is blacked out when it doesn't boast a cable channel that would ever broadcast a badminton event, even if you begged to pay for it. :crying:
IMG handles the worldwide distribution of SC and WC, TC/UC, WJC/WSC for BWF for 2011-2013 inclusive. They've got an exclusive 4-year deal with BWF beginning 2014 for WC, SS and GPG events. http://img.com/news/news/2013/may/bwf-and-img-in-landmark-media-rights-deal.aspx I won't be holding my breath. In Canada, I believe Rogers and maybe Bell do have some Asian bouquets on offer -although I am not too sure of the channels offered...
It's really not that hard to use region changing software with Firefox or Chrome to bypass the block.
New additional package as initially cable TV only aired 12 SS + BWF events. Seems BWF will start to promote their Grand Prix Gold tournaments.
Yep. Using Firefox with some add ons, i was able to watch Sudirman cup 2013 and India open superseries 2013(both were blocked in India)
Why Malaysia? Because they have forced to watch live only on ASTRO (most expensive channel suscribe)...?!
Yes, it is good that the GPG events will also be broadcasted. That will help to promote the sport more aggressively in many more countries. But again, you will need to carefully read the fine print. Its possible some or all GPG events may not be broadcasted/streamed live at all. They may be canned and then aired say 5 days or later, after the event is completed. I had done some checking on the IMG site at the time, and had discovered these "surprises" back in May, IIRC. For example, check out their programming info for the recently concluded Canadian Open GP http://www.imgprogramming.com/badminton/canada-open-grand-prix.aspx Notice how IMG have all media rights, and for all territories except Canada. Gotta love this: "Technical: Taped coverage of the five finals with English commentary and international sound available five days after the event in Singapore in 16:9 SD Digital PAL." Someone at IMG is ultra quick on the copy-paste keys but not very clued in on the format differences.
BWF WC 2013 broadcasting: http://www.imgprogramming.com/badminton/bwf-world-badminton-championships.aspx Live coverage, all media rights, worldwide except China (host.)
I heard the US Open was supposed to be a 5 day delay of the semis and finals after the events concluded. Where they were streamed, no one will ever know...
By the way you don't need to have the proxy running the whole time, just to start the stream you must block your origin.
Is this article about that same program? And if so, should I be worried? http://www.ghacks.net/2012/11/23/warning-proxtube-extension-injects-ads/
http://www.bwfbadminton.org/news_item.aspx?id=73812 Badminton World Federation (BWF) and IMG Media have agreed a four-year contract for the centralised media rights of the BWF Major Events, the BWF World Superseries and BWF Grand Prix Gold. In past four years TotalSportsAsia has the media right of 12 superseries.
Probably. The broadcasting rights wouldn't have any value if the audience could get a free live-streaming on the BWF's youtube channel... > By the way, you guys should give a try to Stealthy. It's a free proxy-add-on for some browsers. It's pretty easy to use, and you can choose the country you want a proxy connection from. Never used it on the BWF channel as I live in France, but when I was in Finland I used this little trick to unblock some NHL games from the GamecenterLive (for which I had paid a subscription, btw), since a number of games are broadcasted by the Finnish TV channels. So yes, pretty effective system there http://www.stealthy.co
