http://olahraga.kompas.com/read/201...n.Hakim.Garis.di.Asian.Games.Akan.Curang.Lagi He is so confident that CHN will be victorious that: "Even though we are facing tight opposition from South Korea, Indonesia and Japan, I am certain CHN will reach good result in Asian Games. However, I am a little bit worried with the officials and linesmen there", said Li Yong Bo
being fed his own medicine. but still a legitimate concern as a whole. something that the federation should keep an keen eye on.
There is no mention of Hawkeye in the Technical Hanbook, which does, however, mention the use of international technical officials and line judges. 9. Technical Officials 9.1 Technical Officials & Jury of Appeal Twenty-nine (29) International Technical Officials and ten (10) International Line Judges will be appointed by BAC. Elsewhere it says... - 18 - 6. Competition Rules The Badminton competition of the 17 th Asian Games will be held in accordance with the Rules of the Badminton World Federation (BWF), the laws of Badminton as stated in the Statutes book, the OCA Constitution and Rules, in force during the Games time and other relevant regulations and rules....and... Technical issues : Resolved in accordance with the Badminton Asia Confederation (BAC) Rules. There was no Hawkeye at the Badminton Asia Championships so it could be that BAC rules don't account for it. On the other hand, if it is in the 'laws of Badminton', then there is still a chance they could use it. Keep in mind, though, that the regulations and budget for the Asian Games were done before Hawkeye really caught on with the BWF. We might be out of luck.
Malaysia's The Star online news article about this issue => http://www.thestar.com.my/Sport/Badminton/2014/09/01/Yongbo-wants-hosts-S-Korea-to-be-fair-in-Asiad/ 2002 Busan AG Badminton Men's team final controversy is expected will not repeat again in Incheon, http://www.sportstaronnet.com/tss2545/25450620.htm
I certainly think it's tactical. Asian Games is being held in Korea, and the whole Organizing committee as well as the Korean Government and people want a good publicity free of any accusations etc. Hence, Li yong bo doing this will get the Korean Badminton federations in pressure. If this news also goes to the organizing committee, they will keep vigil on badminton events because they overwhelmingly want a good tournament. In general, this is a good and calculated ploy to avoid any line judging biases.
Brave of Li Yongbo, one of his character traits. Implementing Hawk-Eye technology for every match would be ideal, if not at least from the quarter-finals onward. The Asian Games is equivalent to Asia's Olympics and Korea is an advanced nation and is expected to do a very good job of it which I believe she will. Look how well organized was the Nanjing YOG that both the IOC president,Thomas Bach, and the ex-president , Jacques Rogge, gave high praise, with Thomas Back describing them as " flawless".
I'm relatively new to following this sport properly so I need to ask if this is legitimate. Are untrustworthy linesmen honestly a proven problem in this sport or is it yet another example of the patriotic conspiracies that are rampant throughout the fanbases of this sport?
It is an issue in Korea, there have been several tournaments in the past, where the judgement of the linesmen was a bit "unusual"...
exactly, that's not a new thing, and does not happen only in korea that happens everywhere, china definitely is not an exception. but still, the federation should do something to curb this serious issue.
That's too bad Hawkeye will not be used for this tournament. After Hawkeye has been used for the last few tournaments, you realize how bad the line calls are. I don't have the stats, but my impression is something like 5% of line calls have been overturned by Hawkeye. On average, I see a point overturned by Hawkeye every set. When you have close matches in the final, such as Chen Long vs LCW, or the Korean men's doubles finals at the WC, it's the difference between gold and silver. Even if they can't use Hawkeye, they should use instant replay. Instant replay was also quite accurate. I doubt that they can't afford the budget for instant replay.
well, There are many examples of korea cheating in sport events held in their country from the past, and not only in badminton. Portugal and Italy fans have a painful memory of WC 2002.
Along with the painful memory of WC 2002 co-hosted by Korea, sour memory of Olympic 1988 hosted in Seoul also comes to my mind, as long the Koreans boxers didn't get knock out in the ring, the Korean boxers all won their Gold medals against better boxers from USA and other countries. The thing is, Korea has a cheating sports history as host nation even as the years go by.
Definitely tactical. Li Yong Bo is like Jose Mourhino except there is no natural antagonistic personality in badminton to counter him
Li Yong Bo is worried that game officials and linesmen cheating again in Asia... There is no hawkeye in this AG. guess why? the Korean organizer refused BWF's request to do so, claiming it is too expensive to install... you may ask some insider like Hauge (?) to verify and correct me if wrong... this is the homecourt magic...
Actually ,, This is nothing to do With Korean Organizer.. BAC organized it, from 10 International line judges which we asked a while ago to make things fairer... Regarding Hawkeye, BWF just approved this company since March and it is not cheap to require one..$50000 approximately.. Anyway.. Complained about lines this time is almost unheard as they used international line judges.. The Manager tournament is from BAC , Mr Chooi Weng Seng from Malaysia... More complained about draft.. Some Players can adapt IT, some cant..
