I wouldn't mind being WR#1 even for a day. . Just joking. To lighten up the forum. I think it is only the Jia You fans. She was the thorn in CHN's flesh after TB retired. Later it could be RI, CM TTY and the list goes on. Did you fight back then? I am one of the happy ones. May I stay? And I am looking forward to today's final.
oh really, what do you know about tennis. .wimbledon is one of the biggest and prestigious championships in the tennis world just like all england open in badminton, if you ask any tennis player about their goals. .95% of them will say they wan't to win wimbledon, google about wimbledon. .you will know better facts about it.
Discussing with Chinese fans is like banging head to wall . They have various interpretation of judging player and all lead to one or another Chinese being best. I can't imagine now how they dealt with the fact when taufik won 2004 OG .
If anything Wimbledon is bigger in tennis than All England is in badminton. It's the biggest thing in tennis, Olympics aside. In badminton there is also world championships and the rich SSFinals . Yup.
no need to imagine. You can look it up yourself http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/73-Olympics-ATHENS-2004
Congrats to Saina for this outstanding achievement in the History of Indian badminton. WORLD NO. 1 status.. WOW..
Mod notice: To all thread discussants, Feel free to discuss. We have our opinions. However, we notice some postings that are very unhelpful and rather immature: A) some will take the discussion to a personal level. E.g."what sort of name is that for a person from .... (Insert country) " B) some will be belittle other countries in a distraction technique e.g. "So what about your country who is crap" - in a mistaken belief that the location of the poster is equivalent to the nationality. (Just for clarification, it isn't) C) some will try to encourage others to take things personally e.g. "So did you fight back?" Please keep the discussion to a civil nature. Passionate is fine. Thanks for your attention
Well, it is rather off topic, but Roland Garros or the US Open are bigger then badminton. australien open is also a GS enjoying more success then Wimbledon. The reason is that there are plenty of tourneys on hard surface, or clay court, but almost none on grass. Though historically Wimbledon is important, and still prestigious, as a GS, to win it is not eloquent as to win in the three other GS. In any case, you cannot affirm that Wimbledon stands apart among the GS.
And this has nothing to do with supporting chinese players or else. I don't care about players' nationality.
Well, Saina wins the Indian Open and consolidates on the world no.1. It takes a lot of courage to have made the change away from Puella. She's a lot more athletic now but still doesn't have a great bounce technique on her movement. However, a win is a win. Congrats
Ask anyone who knows about tennis - they will tell you that wimbledon is thebiggest thing in tennis. The uniqueness of grass surface and the recent addition of the roof- all has made wimbledon even bigger in recent times. Also in badminton - ask most players outside of China, and they will tell you that winning in China SSP is as valuable, and perhaps even more valuable, than winning in the All England. Beating the Chinese in China - that's as big as it gets.
Enough debating, it's time I congratulate Saina. Congrats Saina for winning IOSS and also on becoming world #1. Can anyone do the calculations for me- what does Saina need to in MOSSP to retain #1.
A few more things: 1>I loved how Saina said thank you to Ratchanok after the match. It was like an acknowledgement that it was because of you defeating CM that I got the #1. 2>The mystery of the strange dress that Riya Mukherjee was wearing against Saina has been solved. Saina is riya's idol and what she was wearing was an Yonex T-shirt given to her by Saina. So that strange purdah in front of the shirt was to hide the yonex logo. 3> Ruthvika Shivani Gadde took the maximum points from Saina compared to any other player in AESSP and IOSS, except Carolina Marin.
I am not talking about calculations. I am talking about the turn of events. She got the #1 spot after RI defeated CM. I think SN would have defeated CM anyway, had she won in semis.
