Yes, Madhu recites Hanuman chalisa quite well when our players are playing. It helps them immensely and they rarely lose in such situation.
Hanuman chalisa !! Not necessarily. Might be some other slokas. Anyhow, she is a very good human being and good personality. Cheering loudly for the players will give them confidence. {I do remember one instance @ London Olympics , where a step father of a gymnast was keep on clapping for his son(step) while his son was performing jn the finals(when asked about it, he said that act would give the motivation to his (step) son. Tv crew did not forget to show it) and Finally, his son got a bronze medal. } I think her motivation is important for the players.
When will they get chance, I wonder. It's about time they start playing in GP/GPG level tournies. Yes, I doubt it is hanuman chalisa. She is originally from west bengal and reciting hanuman chalisa is not the most common prayer among bengalis. Who knows- it might not even be a prayer, may be she is just channeling her will-power/psychic-energy for the good of Indian players.
Quality wise , they should be 3 and 4 for india. Even Thulasi lost to them easily last year. At the age of 17, sindhu already won Li xuerui, olympic champion. And by 18, she won world championship medal beating Wang Yihan and Wang shixian , that too in china. By 19, she already won another World championship medal. I would like to see Ruthvika shivani to play regular tournaments to gain experience. But i think , they are busy with their studies.
Sources please. Goswamis are common among both Bengalis and Assamese, and I am pretty sure I read somewhere that she was a Bengali. And reciting hanuman chalisa is not that common in Assam either.
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/younguttaranchal/conversations/topics/5947 You must have read that she is from WB. She worked with NF Railway and not with ER.
Dipankar Bhattacharrya was a reverse story. Bengali from Assam. Anyways who cares. They all are Indians. Thats what matter.
Current examples. Saina -- Haryanvi from Telengana/Karnataka. PVS -- Malayali from Telengana. Rituparna Das -- Bengali from Telengana.
That doesn't look very convincing. Only some guy named V.Pawar says that. And I am quite confident I read she is a Bengali, not just from WB.. And Unlike Rituparna or Saina, she was actually born in West Bengal. She did not settle there. She is basically from the Siliguri town in the Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal. But like you said it shouldn't matter.
I am sure you are aware that Nepalis outnumber Bengalis in that district. The MP is a Punjabi Sikh and the district has the 3rd highest concentration of Tibetans after Dharamshala and Mangalore. Immaterial still. Just like its immaterial that whether she is chanting Hanuman Chalisa or some Kali/Durga chant. It won't be too surprising if she is a Bengali (her passion is like Dada or Leander) or Assamese (her passion is like Arnab, but in a good way)
Airos Lets hope we have a better day at SGP tomorrow than we had today. Our doubles teams are hopeless. :-(
I have actually lived in that area for 2 years in the past. The Bengalis did look like the big majority to me. But I am not sure how all that population stats are even relevant. But like you said, she is an Indian first. I think the hanuman chalisa part was a joke to begin with.
sorry to be still talking about this but I thought she was from Uttarakhand given that she is "Bisht" (i thought she kept her maiden name).
LOL, let's not turn P.V.Sindhu thread into a Madhumita Bisht thread. (And if required, perhaps the Indian Badminton thread is more suited for this) To answer your question: Her nee is Goswami. She obviously took her husband's surname after marriage. I think she is most likely a Bengali. Probably the confusion that she may be from Assam was caused by the fact that she has ties with NF railways. But what was forgotten here was that most of Northern Bengal and North-Eastern Bihar also falls under NF railways. And the Siliguri main railway station(New-Jalpaiguri station) falls under it. I found this interview by her. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ru2RXSYLm9E
By the way, any info Sindhu's fitness right now? Why did she skip SOSS? Was it because she is still not fullt fit?
She skipped it because she had just started training and was yet to reach optimum competition level. She is reportedly match fit. BTW thanks for sharing MB's interview. WIll check it up at leisure.
