But one can question the lack of high profile people in badminton events. In HK during the open there is a big section of the stadium for the VIP. They are the better seats. But they are empty. There are so many stars in HK, movie and music celebs, but no one goes to see badminton. In India? During the India SS, the camera showed some administrative people, but no stars it seems. There is no lack of stars in India no? How come we cannot attract them with our beautiful sport?
And the funny part is, the printed local newspapers are flooding their local readers with news on tennis eventhough the tennis is not such popular in that country, let say compared to badminton, and even funnier, disregard the hard facts that the achievement of their countrymen in the tennis is abysmal while they achieve way much better in badminton. And this force-fed coverage policy does not only happen in printed newspapers but also in TV coverages incl. the live broadcast. It's very sad and pathetic when the local media networks are just carrying the weight of the giant, syndicated news aggregators (Reuters & its subsidiary, the Associated Press and AFP) and other giant, established mainstream media corporations. That's why I said earlier badminton can't compared to tennis in term of money and media coverage; eventhough in those particular Asian nations whereas tennis is indeed much less popular than badminton and their countrymen achieve much better in badminton, the local media still give badminton the meager coverage [compared to the indecently elevated coverage of tennis]. Just pay attention to the local media practices in your countries, some readers may see the same light as my self indeed.
I agree with you. That is why I say badminton is badly organized. The strengths of badminton are spent for little results. All look so amateurish. But there are so many fans, so large a potential
Somehow Tennis has also very many good looking players, at least for the women. In Badminton this is somehow not the case lol. Boe should shut up. But anyway he does not get punished like the incidence in Dubai where he offended the umpire.
That's to said, even you are not a talent, China's system could make you lethal; the rest of the world could only wait for a talent to come, i.e. wait for luck. That's why China could have endless supply of good players. National associations of the rest of world really need to do more...
Even without the same level of mental and physical strength, Indian players did very well. Imagine if they also had the talent of those players you mentioned.
Talent or hardwork is only aimed at getting the end result . Very few are talented enough to rule but most come through hardwork and right mix of other things. Those who like talent or hardwork is personal preference .
I don't agree. At least if we compare modern day female tennis players with modern day female badminton players - then badminton will come out on top. Female badminton players are defintely prettier than tennis players.
I don't agree, it is not about how excellent or how bad the badminton is organized or the same issue about tennis. One can apply this situation upon the other branches of sport, not just badminton, but the rest of the sports that are NOT picked as the cream of the crops to symbolize the objectives of the current establishments, for instance one may name volleyball and table tennis, or one may name ANY beyond those few "core" sports which are older and more organized than badminton, yet those factors don't help much their statuses either! It's all about the power of money and media control, which few branches of sport they wanna pour in the huge fund and put in the endless limelight and elevate into the top through the huge money & media resources they are controlling. The rest of branches are just sidelined.
I think female badminton players are prettier than female tennis players. Let me give an example, in my opinion Ratchanok Intanon is way prettier than whatever tennis player there is Also how the female players build is different between the sports- badminton girls are more slim (not too slim like it´s unhealthy) than tennis girls who tend to be more stocky in build than even the fattest badminton WD players
Kournikova in 99 predicted that all players by 2009 will play in bikinis in the WTA Tour. 16 years later, we still have normal dresses on court other than mavericks like Brenda Schultz, Mattek Sands, VW11 and the now retired steamy yummy mummy Ashley Harkleroad (oooh...........)
