M/Q Report version 1 (updated 17th April 2015) : http://www.bwfbadminton.org/file.aspx?id=631260&dl=1 DRAW date : 5th May 2015 It's impressive entry list particularly for MS, WS and MD disciplines where the top 10 WR have been registered here, good news for Aussie badminton fans
1st Super Series tournament on the Olympic Qualification Calendar. WD has a lot of changed pairings. Wang Xiaoli and Zhao Yunlei are on the reserve list. KKK/TBH making their comeback to try to qualify for the Olympics in 2016 barely make the Qualifications List. LYD on the reserve list for XD with Lee So Hee. Interesting that there were two wildcards handed out...
^ They made it to Australia, despite they have quite low ranking. It was close call, they are the the last MD pair before Reserved list I also noticed that Cai Yun is now pairing with new partner, Kang Jun.
KKK/TBH barely made the cut in the qualifications! Whew! Hope they can advance far enough- want to see them in TV courts! .. Why is Bodin partnering Nipithonpuangpuapech which was Maneepong's previous partner? Weren't they supposed to be playing together already? Injury?
The Australian wildcard for men's doubles has a chance of making the main draw! Boe and Mogensen might not make it.. Flights and hotel costs to Australia are expensive.
They've probably accumulated enough air-miles to fly around the world twice. Should be ok for a while I imagine.
Either someone forgot to inform the top 10 girls that its just a SS and not a mandatory SSP, OR the high prize money was the factor. Either way it ensures that starting from R16 all matches will be unpredictable.
If you have to travel a long way, you may as well play two tournaments. It is in those SS/SSP/SS situations, one of the SS's will suffer. Japan Open got itself out of the jam and helped Australian Open as well.
The fact that it's also the 1st Super Series on the Olympic Qualification Calendar is why it's so big. You gotta fight tooth and nail for every point. Since every top player is looking to play these big events, it's harder to win, therefore points are harder to come by.
that. and as usual, the qualification period before the Olympics can be as excited as the Olympics itself. looking forward to a great year.
Good to see Sayaka Takahashi returning to SS. Also welcome Eom Hye Won back on the tour, as the 15th qualifier in XD. It is interesting to see a couple wildcard entries to the main draws for players from the host.
Anyone knows why is Renuga or Leanne Choo are not taking part ? I thought they were among the best Australian women doubles players. Gronya is playing with Setyana instead.
