XD - Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei (CHN)

Top guns gear up as Dubai Finals looming

After two weeks break, fifth SS Premier of BWF World Super Series installment is on the way and will set up premium badminton action in Fuzhou. Badminton giant China certainly will fix pretty disappointing result last year when they only bagged 2 titles through WD and XD, missed top honour of singles category in front of fully-packed home fans. The lucrative prize money and hefty ranking points at stake should allure all badminton shuttlers to bring their A game here.

MS defending champion Srikanth Kidambi has really tough challenge to repeat his brilliant feat last year, this off-form Indian player may meet his nemesis Tian HW at second round if he could pass HKG veteran Hu Yun at R/32. World #1 and World Champion Chen Long who’s sent packing early in 2014 ediition will be motivated to do well this time, toughest foe will waiting him at last eight, on paper scenario is none but Danish rising star Viktor Axelsen. Second seed Jan O Jorgensen is grouped with two high calibre shuttlers, Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei. Malaysian star Lee will face recent Bitburger Open winner Angus Ng KL in opening round while home mega star Lin Dan has qualifier to start his campaign here.
R/32 highlights : Viktor Axelsen (DEN) v Wei Nan (HKG), Kento Momota (JPN) v Wang Zhengming (CHN), Srikanth Kidambi (IND) v Hu Yun (HKG), Xue Song (CHN) v Chou Tien Chen (TPE)

The most successful WS player in this season, Carolina Marin is hot favourite and will be inspired to nail her first ever title in Great Wall as Saina Nehwal did last year. It’s sigh of relief for the Chinese trio as Li Xuerui finally clinched DEN Premier last month, her two compatriots Wang Shixian and Wang Yihan still seek victory who becoming elusive lately due to the rising of new faces in badminton world. 2014 champion Nehwal will get tricky opening test, SIN SS winner Sun Yu. Many projected close contest will happen at very early stage and no impossible to spring some upsets.
R/32 highlights : Saina Nehwal (IND) v Sun Yu (CHN), Ratchanok Intanon (THA) v Nozomi Okuhara (JPN), Busanan Ongbumrungpan (THA) v Akane Yamaguchi (JPN), Sayaka Takahashi (JPN) v Sung Ji Hyun (KOR)

Bagging 4 title in a row since JPN SS then followed by KOR SS, DEN Premier and FRA SS will indicate top-seed Lee YD/Yoo YS is looking good to defend their crown while their nemesis Ahsan/Setiawan has not yet back to supreme form after recent World Championships glory. Bad record by host China in this category, they never won MD title since Superseries inaugural edition back to 2007, the last China MD pair topped podium here is Zhang Wei/Zhang Jun in 2001. In the absence of Fu HF/Zhang N, China will rely their hope on their two unstable pairs, Liu XL/Qiu ZH and last year beaten finalist Chai B/Hong W. Several seeded pairs have stern first round test including reigning world champion Ahsan/Setiawan who will up against the on-fire Danish #2 Conrad/Kolding.
R/32 highlights : Li JH/Liu YC (CHN) v Kamura/Sonoda (JPN), Liu XL/Qiu ZH (CHN) v Pratama/Suwardi (INA), Kim GJ/Kim SR (KOR) v Lee SM/Tsai CH (TPE), Conrad/Kolding (DEN) v Ahsan/Setiawan (INA).

WD top four seeded pairs enjoy first round bye due to lack of participant in this department. Reversal of MD fact, the home pairs scored fantastic record as none of foreign pair could stop them since 1991 and the trend may continue this year. The Olympic Champion and twice World Champion Tian Q/Zhao YL will be home trump card as their teammates are still vurnerable against foreign participant, there’re two new local experimenting pairs here, Huang YQ/Wang XL and Tang JH/Zhong QX. Top-seed Matsutomo/Takahashi alongside with Polii/Maheswari, Pedersen/Juhl and two Korean pairs Chang YN/Lee SH also Jung KE/Shin SC as well will pose major threat for Chinese brigade.
R/32 highlights : Huang YQ/Wang XL (CHN) v Jung KE/Shin SC (KOR), Kakiiwa/Maeda (JPN) v Chang YN/Lee SH (KOR)

Korean sensation Ko SH/Kim HN who emerged as the winner in last two Superseries is surrounded by three home pairs at top-half of draw, multi champions Zhang N/Zhao YL, 2012 winner Xu C/Ma J and world #8 Lu K/Huang YQ. Another top contenders in this category, Ahmad/Natsir and Fischer/Pedersen are grouped at lower half, barring any upsets these two elite XD will face-off at last eight. The mighty Zhang/Zhao is still strong favourite to defend their title, on scenario their big hurdle will begin at quarterfinal to oppose KOR #1 Ko SH/Kim HN.
R/32 highlights : Shin BC/Chae YJ (KOR) v Adcock/Adcock (ENG), Chan PS/Goh LY (MAS), Reginald Lee CHN/Chau HW (HKG), Fuchs/Michels (GER) v Ahmad/Natsir (INA)

The latest withdrawals according to ts.com last update, Parupalli Kashyap (IND), Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka (INA), Sayaka Takahashi (JPN), Fu HF/Zhang N (CHN), Attri/Reddy (IND), Herttrich/Michels (GER), Goliszewski/Nelte (GER), Subaktiar/Widjaja (INA).

The qualifying round will kick off tomorrow (10.00am local time, 5 court) =>https://www.tournamentsoftware.com/...C5CA11-E6F6-42A9-9D9A-0375D903F24E&d=20151110

Axelsen has quite a difficult road ahead, with Wei Nan, then possibly Tommy, then CL in the quarters.

She might win, but "destroy" seems unlikely!

How can China come up with such a schedule for a SSP. some of the qualifying round players have hardly one hour's rest between round 1 and 2.

Let's see how much time will SYQ get to rest before he plays Liu Haichao.

I concur. very crazy! Zhu Siyuan did not have much time to rest too and that probably caused him to lose to Guo Kai.

Liu Haichao lost by 19 and 18 to SYQ. Now we won't be able to tell whether this youngster's standard is close to SYQ or the latter was tired.

Possibly Shi YQ was little bit tired. Tomorrow, the Youth Olympic Champion will take on former Japan #1, Kenichi Tago.

Well, the qualification round is already over and we'll looking forward to plenty of intriguing ties tomorrow, ROUND OF 32 Order of Play (10.00am local time, 5 court) => https://www.tournamentsoftware.com/...C5CA11-E6F6-42A9-9D9A-0375D903F24E&d=20151111

Liu is not sent to the WJC. In his place 2012 Asian Boys U15 champion, Chen Jinlin, is sent. It will be wonderful if Chen turns out to be a much better player. Chen is an unknown player, having not taken part in any tournament since he won the U15 title.

Yes would be great if he is better than Liu. Its nice to see these new faces. Liu was impressive to beat the 21 year old from indonesia.

I just hope the CBA will gather a few of these new youngsters to compete in the GPG tournaments next year.

SY did well to beat HY and I hope this will mean he gets to compete overseas more as well.

I observe that SY has improved. He did well against LHI and now he has beaten HY. HY does not do very well against foreign players but he is quite a formidable player when playing against his compatriots on his home soil. Let's see how SY performs tomorrow.

Good to note that 17 year old Chen Xiaoxin has beaten Hui Xirui, a cohort of Sun Yu and 16 year old Li Wenmei took a veteran Taiwanese to 3 sets. It is about time the young girls start beating Sun Yu's cohorts and, better still, Sun Yu herself. Otherwise when the top 3 retires there will be a vacuum which is difficult to fill. Another 16 year old, Cai Yanyan, gets a free ride into the main draw. Let's see how she performs.

Yes tomorrows game against KT is a very important one for SY. A win will pave the way forward for him. An interesting challenge and SY's defence against KT's smashes will be crucial.
HY is a second tier player so its a telling performance by SY.

As for the WS I just hope that they have power and guile in their game, otherwise its a difficult task taking on the best in the ROW.

IMHO, Only LX has the qualities and the talent to challenge the ROW.
