Indonesia has no final representative once again following their leading pairs lost yesterday. XD, Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei (CHN) v Liu Cheng/Bao Yixin (CHN) Head-to-head stats : 6-0 Considering striking statistics, it's difficult job for Liu/Bao to score first ever win over their illustrious senior but maybe this is the right time for young Chinese pair as Zhang/Zhao performance indicate they're not at their best throughout this tournament. The mighty duo showed shaky start yesterday, trailed far behind against Yoo/Chang before the great comeback at mid first game. MS, Carolina Marin (ESP) v Nozomi Okuhara (JPN) H-2-H : 1-1 Last year beaten finalist Nozomi Okuhara should not waste second chance to top podium this time but she must overcome the toughest hurdle, none but twice World Champion Carolina Marin. Japanese youngster had knocked out high calibre opponent en route to final, the Olympic Champion Li Xuerui at first round, defending champion Tai Tzu Ying at last eight and former world champion Ratchanok Intanon yesterday. Marin shows her superiority to eliminate Sindhu, Yamaguchi, Porntip and Wang YH with convincing style. MS, Lee Chong Wei (MAS) v Tian Houwei (CHN) H-2-H : 0-1 One step closer for Malaysian hero to grab back to back Superseries title, third in this year after French Open and China Open. His final rival is Chinese youngster, left-hander Tian HW who stunned him at their first ever meeting in Australia Open two years ago. Highly-motivated Lee thwarted local player Angus Ng despite got trouble at first game while Tian ended Indonesian qualifier Anthony Ginting in three games. Lee is the biggest stumbling block for China men's singles as he defeated their two aces, Lin Dan and Chen Long in one tournament last week. WD, Tian Qing/Zhao Yunlei (CHN) v Tang Yuanting/Yu Yang (CHN) H-2-H : 0-1 A semifinal rematch of last week China Open when the relatively new partnerships Tang/Yu stunned their more favoured team mates and the Olympic Champion may took revenge and defend their title here. As usual, China maintains long-time domination in this category and it's still hard for rest of the world to break their powerful play. Tang/Yu looks on top after bagged Bitburger Open and China Open. MD, Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong (KOR) v Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen (DEN) H-2-H : 5-0 Limping head to head stats favour to Korean world number one pair. A near death experience for Lee/Yoo, trailed behind 12-18 then they won narrowly 30-28 in thrilling semifinal clash agaist Chai/Hong. The evergreen Danish combo, Boe/Mogensen stopped last year winner Ahsan/Setiawan despite managed slow start at first game. The off-form Indonesian top-ranked pair sends negative sign towards season-ending finale in Dubai next month.
Wow THW can become a legend by beating LCW and staying undefeated against him hehe. Anyone else LCW has never beaten over at least 2 matches?
MD should be the most interesting.. For Women's Doubles, ZYL/TQ vs YY/TYT could be preview of Rio WD Final, OR the decisive battle as to which pair (or players) will get their (or her) tickets to got to Rio. A third possibility is that LYB has already made up his mind as to which two pairs or four players in WD will go to Rio. So today's WD match is a training opportunity especially since ZYL has to play in XD.
Yes. Of course, ZN/ZYL will go to Rio as a pair. The second ticket is complicated. Will Ma Jin play in WD for Rio? If LYB has already decided that Ma Jin will play in WD (presumably with TYT), then Liu/Bao will go to Rio. If TYT goes with YY in WD, then Ma Jin/Xu Chen vs Liu/Bao is crucial. These two XD pairs' head-to-head records against foreign players should be the decisive factors.
Especially with Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei both set to do double duty in XD and MD and XD and WD respectively, it's even more important that Liu/Bao can deliver gold should ZN/ZYL be too stretched. The weakest link is still CHN MD.
Good to see Liu/Bao giving ZN/ZYL a tough fight, I'm sure they are out to convince their coaches of their capabilities.
