Watched few tournaments replay in 2015 recently and found out the MD games the smash speed reached about 350-380 kmph range? Is there new recording equipment or method? I remember those MD games before is around 270-290 smash speed and over 300 occasionally. Or the strength of these men increase?
As far as I know they changed how they calculate the speed I heard from the commentator of one of the game. But I can't find the detail of the difference.
In PBL I.e, premiere Badminton league which recently held in India we witnessed 400+ Km/h smashes from Ivanov, Pranav and Bodin Issara.. In fact smashes from PVS and SN were around 360-380 margin so it's clear with the advancing tech they have advancing methods and with the advancing aggressiveness from the player the speedometer readings are no surprise isn't it?
Nowadays in MS the smashes are much more mild then they were before. In the era of Chen Hong, young LD, etc., the high jump full speed smashes were common thing. Today, players don't do this anymore because it is to tiring and dangerous as it is difficult to keep the balance that way. So if the smash speed got higher, it is because of the machine or the way they calculate.
They have changed the way to calculate it before you would smash and the shuttle would pass through a speed gun see example below https://youtu.be/Krieujj0oTc Now when using hawkeye they can measure the same as they did for the world record one, straight off the racket. See below for 1minute onwards. https://youtu.be/GTS95B652pw
thanks for the answer, i was having the same doubt, no way these single players smashing 350-380 and their oppoent can return those smashes... fu hai feng would have go beyong 500
If I am not wrong even Busanan hit around 340 in the recent BAC at Hyderabad!! Hmm the new system surely boosts their morales
