I've had 2 weeks using G-Tone 5 on a Customedge V v2 and X v2. Both at 25lbs. I like it a lot, it sounds great with great power, good control, with a feel on the hard side of medium.

Sound: It's amazing, probably one of the loudest and best sounding strings out there. The really loud and crisp THWACK sound tell you when you get it just right. Even if I don't smash hard, it sounds hard.

Control: I was able to place drops and serves very very consistently where I wanted. Smashes were easy to angle down. It's as good as VS-850 or R4X 110. But fell short of BG66UM because I only had at at 25lbs.

Power: Smashes were easily as powerful as the R4X 110, and I felt it was about as powerful as BG66UM. It was easy hitting powerful snap smashes, so I think people who aren't power hitters will like this string for the accessible power.

Feel: I'd put it on the hard-side of medium feel. It's definitely harder than BG66UM, but not as hard as BG80. It has hints of R4X 110, with a slight glassy feel but not quite there. I'll have to crank up the tension next time.

Durability: I don't know yet, but Gosen rates it at 9/10, which is the same as the R4X 110 and that one is quite durable.

Tension: After 2 weeks of play, the tension has held steady after an initial small drop.

    Good review.

I've only had one session with this string but I concur with most of what you've said.

Thanks. I need to add one bit. Because of how great the strings sound when you hit the sweet spot, you immediately know when you mishit. And if you mishit on a smash, it almost sounds like you snapped a string.

    After using a JS10 with G-tone 5 @ 28/30 (or 30/32, i kinda overclocked it), I think I might replace R4X 110 with this. I actually like the G-Tone 5 more.

    @Mark A - you might want to give G-Tone 5 a try some day.

Just got 2 packs of GT-5 last week, can't wait to give it a go but all my go to rackets still have good strings on them, I don't want to build a habit of cutting strings to try new one. Still have NBG 99, BG66F and Zymax 62F in stock and on my try out list but I happy to know that GT-5 is a great string, was told it is even greater at 27lb and above. thinking of putting GT-9 on my next purchase list, have you try any?

Just got me some G Tone 5. Will be interesting to try it on the Gungnir Epsilon.

So, how does it compare to day ZM62, LiNing #1? If no one answers, I guess I'll be answering by next week...

Visor, you'll love it. I have ZM62, ZM62F and R4X 110. And I've left ZM62 and ZM62F for GT5 and R4X 110. I'm not looking back ever. GT5 will be my new go to string besides R4X 110 and NBG99. NBG99 is for plastic birds. Using R4X 110 on plastic is like shooting myself in the shoulder, so to speak. But GT5 is a happy medium. You'll know what I mean when you try it. Between 25, 26 and 30 lbs. GT5 felt best at 30lbs. :D

Looks thinner and rougher than ZM62 and LN#1.

Too bad I'll have to put the blue GT5 on the red Epsilon, since I've just put the LN#1 on the blue Alpha.

So, if I use ZM62F @25x27 lbs, what should be the equivalent tension for GT5? 1 lb less?

I'd still string higher than ZM62F. When taut, GT5 ends up thicker than ZM62F.

Does this string 'grip' the shuttle like Z62 and BG85?
    And how does it string?
I love the play of both of the aforementioned those strings. But one is a slightly bigger pain to string than the other. I'm hoping the G5 has similar play but doesn't have BG85's tendency to curl.

Curl? you mean twisting? If I remember correctly, I pre-weaved about 6 crosses ahead and only got a mild 1-2 loop twist at the end of tightening 6 crosses. That's actually quite good. Some other strings twist a lot, especially BG66UM.

I found control to be on par? I haven't had control issues using GT5. But I am playing at a lot higher tension now, +30lbs. Whereas when I used ZM62 I was only running 25lbs because my shoulder was still borked.

Had a go with the GT5 @ 25x27 lbs = 1275 Hz. Ended up same frequency as ZM62F at same tension.

Very nice sharp sound. Crispy. Perhaps slightly less power than 62F. Great feel. Rough texture gives good grip and bite on shuttle.

Now will have to see about durability and tension retention.

@visor so do you think ZM62F is better than GT5?

Thanks for this comparison. Great news for Z62 lovers.
My reel of old z62 is running low but luckily GT5 is coming on the slow boat from China (well, HK). :)

Stringer's World is clearing out ZM62 at 40 pounds (= $73 CAD) delivered, so you've still got some time with your beloved string. :)
