Line Kjaersfeldt loss today is indeed a surprise . In the recent Indonesia Open she took Wanh Yihan to a rubber set . And who can forget her shocking win in mixed doubles with Kim Astrup over the veteran pair of Tantowi Ahmad and Lilyana Natsir in the same tournament. I hope she does better in the mixed doubles scheduled soon.

Jojo lost straight-sets to 2013 World Junior Champion, Heo Kwang Hee. Consistency is the key problem for the youngsters, Jonatan Christie stole the limelight last week when he stunned Lin Dan also almost eliminated Chen Long and Jan O Jorgensen but he's often troubled by lower-ranked players.

Sindhu lost. Her diminishing form is still prevailing.

Well, whether it is FORMER World NO 1 or FORMER Olympic Champion; note that it is all in the past, there will be new World NO 1 and new Olympic Champion. As great as Olympic Gold Medal is as the honor for a badminton player, how he was being referred to hardly matters. The hardest thing to swallow but all players must eventually accept is that you can no longer play at the top level on major tournaments, such as BWF World Championships, Olympic Games, and yes Superseries. But as long as he worked hard and achieved much success while he could still play, he should have no regrets.

One of the reasons why winning several world/Olympic titles is not as great as it sounds is that they are actually victories over the course of several years. In the meantime, these titles themselves DO NOT in any way mean that he or she has dominated the world circuit by achieving highest rank or winning as many in other major tournaments such as in many Superseries Premier or Superseries titles.

Olympic Medal or World Championship Medals became precious precisely because they are much fewer in numbers being held compared with Superseries Premier and Superseries tournaments; while players can only play at top levels for limited time.

The greatest regret for all great players would be he would have to retire eventually; and having new players replacing them. That's precisely why there would be ALL-TIME great but no ALL-TIME best.

But honestly, neither Olympic Games nor World Championships are being contested strictly by top players due to member associations' discretion and limitation of participants from one member association. That means, higher-ranked players do not always qualify for those tournaments.

So, the greatest obstacle for all players is that they CANNOT always maintain their form.

No matter how much decorated a player once was, he has to accept the fact that he was just another great player and former top player. He could no longer compete with newer generations.

@thljcl You are in danger of sounding like a broken record. I think we get what you mean.

Choi Solgyu/Eom Hye Won splitted and now Choi Solgyu with reunion partner, Chae Yoo Jung seems working very well against duo Adcock

Not good for the Indo young trio so far. 2 out of 3 lost, now left Ginting to contend with CTC.

An intriguing match coming up soon. Can a dogged SDK who has seen better days vanquish a feisty THW?

When many people keep telling about the need of winning Olympic Gold to somehow prove greatness, is it not sounding like a broken record?

Same question, same answer. I guess. I was getting consistent. :D

It's a convoluted question requiring long answer.
