I agree with you anyone can beat LD nowadays, but that depends on which LD you are referring to. LD in CO and AE, or the LD in the other events, one where LD went all-out wanting to win, the other where LD did not get a flying leap whether he win or lose, have you watch those matches. I think LD would want the WR1 or 2 spot and then let OLY draw decides whether LCW or CL will be in his half. But when he knew that he cannot overtake CL or LCW, it makes no difference whether he is WR3 or 4, he resigns himself that to win OLY, he has to prepare to beat both to win, and that is if LCW and CL both advance to the SF. My take is LD, LCW, CL or VA can win, that is which player hit top form in the final. The gap among them is so small, now that LD is no longer the LD of OLY08 form. Honestly, LD can retire after London OLY, why stick around for a 3-peat gold. Do you think LD will stay on for RIO to let any player to beat the crap out of him and tarnish his name and his endorsement value. This chap is not stupid, and his big-buck sponsors would not let him anyway. As for Telegraph favoring CL for gold and I agree that can happen, but I would still place my bet on LD, I would like to know what is the pay-out odds though, and most importantly, how can I be sure I get to collect my winning
I was referring to the one who lost to Sony DK in the Singapore Open. Which category should we put him in? The one who is lazy with zero effort or the one who is full of motivation to win. If losing on purpose is part of his strategy then be that as it may. But why so badly? As his fan I forbid him to lose to What-rank-are-they players I bet my money on Chen Long. Being new member, I suppose you have not read my previous post on LD-SDK match. Here it goes...LD previously was a take-no-prisoner player as he did to LCW in OLY08, no mercy and left LCW crying like a baby when he lost so badly, even Misbun was tidak apa (don't know what to do) LD happened to read the story of SDK, how Sony was injured and had not played for a long time, got married, quit INA team and his supportive wife cheered him back to play. Ruthless LD was deeply moved and became LD the Generous, so he 'threw' that match to Sony and Sony won the SO and the USD purse
You are too fixated on title, perhaps you value hardware and trophies too much. These are pro players, no money no talk If you care to catch up and read all the posts in this forum, LD is still playing today is for 1 last title i.e. OLY gold, not even WC interest him. This chap won 5 WCs, so another WC so what? SO (sorry to my Sing friends) no big deal, not even SS or SSP. You said LD give away SO16, this chap in a previous SO, 'feint' injury and quit playing altogether, gave WO. Try to feel for those Singaporeans who paid big bucks to see LD play, only to see this chap not bother to play at all. At least this time, SIng got to see him play. If you watch SO16 again, you can read Sony and LD lips....SDK said 'thanks Bro for the win'...LD said 'No sweat, what are friends for', those USD can convert to 'banyak rupee-lah' As I said many times before, to win SO or any SS, a player has to win 5 matches, translate that into 45 min per match, that is 225 mins. Win the gold, I assume gets USD20K, that equates to $89 USD per min, and LD could get injured and that really screw up his OLY gold dream. Play all out to please you and win the SO16 does not improve his WR standing, and LD still got stuck in WR3/4 and may have to play both CL and LCW to win OLY gold. . So, why bother? Anyway, it is peanuts $89 USD per min, too much work for so little pay. LD makes plenty more dressing up and attending one of his many endorsement photo-ops checking out good looking chicks If LD wins OLY gold, do you really know how much $$$ he would make...now that is not generous
What are you now.. mind reader, Super Dan's spokesman? Those horrible things you said above as if belittled Sony's victory over LD. No doubt on paper Sony is no match for LD but in reality anythings possible. That day in the finals Sony fought hard, gave all that he could and LD -- to avoid an injury and or whatever reasons on his mind that we may never know-- had to accept the results and added the SIN Open into his 'The Tournaments that I never Won' list.
Comments like this remind me of Chuck Norris jokes. Lin Dan does not lose, he chooses to let the other win out of generosity.
This is Chen Long's thread, that's why I'm very reluctant to talk about Sony too much whom, incidentally,I've said more than once before, was a great player in his younger days. I mean, after Sony barely 'stole' that match from Lin Dan , 22-20 in the decider, what happened ? In the next three tournaments, Sony was eliminated in R1/R2 or suffered early exits to players he's supposed to beat, viz. Hu Yun , K Srikanth, Lin Yu Hsien. All attributed to upsets against players nowhere compared to the (real) Lin Dan? And strange, why single out SDK when there are so many others, including INA players, who beat Lin Dan, particularly in 2015, eg, Tommy Sugiarto who prevailed twice in two consecutive tournaments as if his wins count for much less. Sorry I digress too much. Lest I stirred a hornet's nest, may I suggest we move on or adjourn this topic to the relevant thread(s) ? Now back to Lin Dan. As Peter Gade said, we'll see a different Lin Dan at the Rio Olympics. And I subscribe to that, so would OneToughBirdie, I believe, whose main point is largely on Lin Dan rather than SDK. Oops. I just realized this is Chen Long's thread. All the very best to Chen Long, then. JiaYou !
Sony is a human being he can lose, unlike Lin Dan who is a Super Human. OneToughBirdie is an honestman, he states his mind. Unlike you Justin L you like playing with words. You should indulge in politics. IYKWIM
The thing talking against LD regaining old form for the olympics is that in last year WC he lost to Jorgensen
