    Hello everyone!!!!!

i'm Asiri from Sri Lanka........... I love Badminton and i use to play 2 days a week........

But the thing is whenever i play hard smashes this pain come in.......... i went to seek a medical treatment but my doctor said that if i need to stop this pain, i should either play more than the time i play usually (more than two days a week) or stop playing completely............

I feel like the pain is coming from the lower half of the humerus bone. But my doctor said it's not and the pain is coming from a deep muscle.

Please help me to overcome this. Now i rarely play hard smashes because of this and i always try to beat my opponent by control........... but this method needs a lot of stamina..........

Does anyone have had this problem or am i the only one??? Is there any cure??

Is the pain near the elbow area where the Humerus bone connects? Or could you post a photo of your arm and where the pain is located?

The doctor you went to sounds suspect, I have never heard of such stupid advice as to play more to stop the pain, did he actually examine you properly? Go get a second advice from another doctor.

    Kindest regards,

    -Ajay-

    Hi there...........

no the pain comes from the middle part of the arm.
Yes you are right. The doctor is suspicious. He only spends about 1 or 2 minutes for each patient. But the thing is, all the specialist doctors here are like that. They don't even let us explain the problem. I'm thinking of channeling an Ayurveda doctor next time.

I am in my mid 30's and I encountered the same pains at mid to upper arm area, my remedies will be:

    1. Put a hot bag on your pain area (this will take time to recover, maybe few weeks). I been using infrared hot bag and the recovery speed is faster compared to normal hot bag.

    2. At the same time I am using non-steroidal anti-inflammatory gel name "Voltaren" to help me in recovery.
    For more info about this product, visit the following link;

    3. At initial stage of your treatments. you need to completely rest for 1 to 2 weeks before you can resume your games.

    4. Using a less stiffer and less head heavy racket will help.

    Hello there......

Thanks for the information. One of my friends also told me the same treatment as yours. I'm currently using a stiffer and head heavy racket. Looks like i must have a rest and have a complete recovery.

But the hardest part is to stay without playing....... lol

    1. Take some NSAID medication

    2. Stop playing for 2 weeks.

    3. Physical therapy for 2 weeks.

    4. Resume badminton with the application of KT tape to the area.

    5. Remember to stretch before and after badminton.

Though you are suffering from pain you should now stop the playing for about 1 week. Also don't hesitate to meet the doctor asap. Good Luck!

a doctor who isn't specifically trained for injuries in sport might not help much, Maybe you should see a physiotherapist

    Hello guys,

I have to re-open the thread because I have the same pain in my right upper arm after I re-started playing badminton after a long break time.

I play once a week now since a few weeks.

Everytime since I started I feel the pain during the warm up when I hit long clear or doing some smashes.. :-(

    I have a few questions:

    1) Do you recommend to rest for 2-3 weeks so the pain can go fully away, even after 1 week I don't feel any pain in my arm.

    2) Has it to do maybe with my racket as well or not? I playing with the Astrox 88D, stiff racket, BG65 and around 10 kilogram tension.

Is it better to use a stiff or flexible racket in generell to prevent arm problem or doesn't it matter?

Hope you can give me some advice. Thanks.

    1) I feel that you should rest for 1-2 weeks and then try to play badminton to see whether it comes back. If it doesn’t, then the pain might be due a sprain and has healed (to prevent this you might want to learn some upper arm or even wrist stretches and do it before playing badminton next time). But if not, you might want to feel where the pain is from (the bone?the muscle?) if it’s really painful or if the pin persists you should see a doctor.

    2) The stiffness does matter but I feel the weight and the balance matters more. The pain might be from the racquet being too head heavy and heavy itself for your wrist to take.

    Thank you!

I will rest a week and play again. Will also try again my Voltric 7 with its lighter and midflex.

Also which warmup shots should I do? My clubmates always do high clear. I feel this causes more pain if I still not really warm. Is it better to ask them to play for warmup first other shots like Drive etc.?

I think you can do some static stretches as well like rotating your wrists, high clear is a good warmup as well. I think the point just not to go too quickly into playing games that might cause a sprain

OK, so it's actually good to warmup with high clears!? For me I thought this could cause pain in my upper arm fur to the stretch during hitting the clear. Is it better than Drive or other low shots? Maybe it has also to due with more warmup stretch and a bit wrong technique when clear causes pain? Will see.
