Sindhu just broke all odds. I can't rethink of members here predicting Wang Yihan as gold medal winner. Lol. Sindhu has negative h2h records against Tai and Wang yihan. Still she defeated both of them in straight games . So, Sindhu should take positives on this and concentrate on tomorrow's semifinals. Jai hind.
I believe so for the pools. It does make sense then. But out of the pool it has to be along the rankings
The bronze match is so fake. Why would the boss decide to give the medal to Zhang/Zhao instead of Xu/Ma!
wow, zhang nan hug so long. hope he wins the men double, then he will be remembered as one of those greats.
That's the interesting thing about sports, one can't be sure of the outcome until the match is over. Especially at big games like Olympics. The burden of expectation can turn the tables. Hot favourites may crash out, dark horses rule the day. The results at Rio made me rethink about the issue of career achievements (winning gold at the majors such as oly, wc and imo ae) vs career performance (winning tournament titles and maintaining a top WR) and how it defines a player. Of course, the ideal situation would be to attain both e.g. Lin Dan, CY/FHF, LXR, HS/MA. IMO, such players will go down in badminton history books as top players of their time. Definitely the ones to beat at competitions On the other hand, players who had great career performance but lack that elusive gold at the majors to complete their resume (e.g. LCW, LYD/JJS, LYD/YYS). Does it affect/weaken their reputation/recognition as top players? IMO, nope, especially in the case of LCW. They are still the ones to beat. Conversely, players who have an average performance record but attain career achievements (imo, e.g. ksh/sbc won wc gold). Do you place them as top players of their time? IMO, world class maybe but definitely not the top tier. Lastly, players who attain neither will continue and strive towards achieving these 2 goals My two cents worth
Do you think Taufik can be classified into same group with KSH/SBC?Is he a player with an average performance record but attaining career achievement?
Same here too. On one hand I want WYH to win as a player and on the other I want to see other nations win.
Agreed. I think LCW's case is a bit of a special one - he has lost in the finals at these big stages only to players who are the best of the best - Lin Dan for the most part and Chen Long (who he beat in London fairly handily and has a positive H2H against anyway). Two Olympic silver medals, 4 WC silvers (also counting 2014) and a bronze, those AG medals and BAC titles, and a huge number of super series titles (including 3 AE titles) should comfortably put him in the history books. What a gift it has been to badminton to see him and LD battle it out over the last decade.
Hahaha do u think taufik had an average career performance track record? IMO he would be in the first category. My two cents worth.
