Congrats Carolina for olympic gold. Now she is second most successful WS player of all time at age of 23. Only Zhang Ning has more (2) olympic golds, but less world championships (2 vs 1).

Although I am a badminton non-connoisseurs I have been reading this forum for a year and a half trying to figure out what was going on from another perspective, but the question remains, how the hell a fellow countrywoman like Carolina Marin has been able to achieve this feat.

It is something that absolutely blows my mind, HUGE Caro !!

Do not know whether I will post a comment again but if I had time I would be happy to contribute translating into English some Spanish articles or even Fernando Rivas words during the matches.

What would Carolina need to be considered the Greatest Ladies Singles player of all time?

One more Olympic gold? Or would one more world championship be enough?

Destroy every arch Rival in H2H obviously.

She can Lose to Saina, SJH, Fitrani, Bae YJ, Hashimoto and those US and Canada Girls all she wants

but destroy every Top opponent like Okuhara, Intanon, Tai Tzu , Sindhu and all Chinese gang till she leads the H2H by a comfortable margin.

I congratulate Marin for her Olympic gold medal victory! :)

Some may find her screams too much to bear, but please understand that it was to motivate her to do better. So long as the umpire does not make an issue of her screams, it should be acceptable. The cheers and shouts of spectators and supporters are even louder. Do remember other great players in badminton, tennis, table tennis, etc, also scream and thumb their fists to motivate themselves. Marin is a young player who has a bright future before her. Let her develop into a better person and player.

I recall taking a picture with Marin at this year's Singapore Open. She was so shy and quiet, yet once she is on the court, she is a fierce player to her opponent. She has turned her focus on the battle at hand and gave her best to earn victory!

No chance, ws is in a golden age with several players maybe even 10 all capable of winning top level tournaments and playing top badminton, tough era for demolishing everyone head to head. The fact that she manages to come out on top at majors is all the more impressive.

Marin studied Nadal I think. Nadal does not shout, but he stares at opponent like a killer, and his grit makes him redoutable.

She has grown on me to be honest. Ok, the screaming really is an assault for your eardrums, but I honestly believe she is a great fighter and a great ambassador for our sport in European countries. In Spain, she is really involved with younger players and when you watch interviews with her, she actually seems quite nice and approachable.

Let me say, that her match against Sindhu was thrilling. It gave me chills down my spine. The moment when she won, fell to the ground crying and after that Sindhu hugging her.... What an iconic Olympic moment

Congrats. Her achievement is like China beating India in cricket or India beating China in gymnastics... Oh wait, that one just happened. :p
But to be fair, China beat us in Hockey 10 years ago too and that felt as disastrous and "the sky is falling/earth just ended" as Canada's draw with us did.
