he played with ko for a while when shin was injured back in 2015. i found a few videos on youtube? this is one against ahsan/setiawan

i think he gets nervous/makes a lot of unforced errors, if he can fix that he should be okay. he played xd with eom hye won and they did okay, i hope he's better MD player than he is a XD player though.

    Nope. Sadly.

Crashed out of Singapore Open 2015, playing shots that are....shall we just say they lost.

Didn't realize he's 29 yrs old. Guess he doesn't want to aim for 2020 Olympics when he'll be 33. Best of luck to him and looking forward to seeing him play in more professional league tournaments like India PBL and Malaysia Purple League.

But I know one person who'll miss him the most, and that's Gill Clark.

    Argh...

I wanted to see him play with Chae YJ or Shin SC before he left. Now that seems unlikely :-(

His forehand defense drive that sometimes makes it through, sometimes not.... and his mega uber jump slice drop winners.... will miss that on court :(

What a marathon retired list which still continue after the year passing a new year.

What a sad moment for Korea's fan

Ko was really good with court coverage and taking control of the rallies, reducing the burden of his partners. Retirement is always a difficult choice players have to make. Will miss seeing him play!

His "mega uber jump slice drop" was so good that he caught out LYD a few times during the 2014 WC finals, and on numerous other occasions. SBC and YYS do it too but nowhere near as good. The sound it makes is especially impressive and crisp...something that I have repeatedly failed to replicate  I'll miss watching him play.

If only GVS could have that drop shot in his arsenal, he would be even more incredible to watch!

I will miss his attitude on court, always smiling and friendly. I think 29 is too young.

He only retired from the ntl team, not all badminton...probably because of how strict the Korean team is, players having to live 'on campus', playing many many events etc

I hope Ko enjoys a life that's not strictly centered around badminton, and I wish him good luck with his studies.

This leaves the korean team in a very weak state in MD and XD, and I guess Kim Gi Jung will leave the team sooner or later since he's a father now. Maybe they should reconsider their strict rules.

His disguised drop is indeed very good but it is mainly because he has such a good smash that makes it so effective, receivers have to prepare for the big smash and tend to get caught out by the disguised drop. It was the same with JJS and to some extent YYS although with YYS his opponents know that he couldn't quite sustain the big smashes for long whereas with KSH and JJS they could hammer the big smashes all day long.

I guess it's up to YYS to raise up the new toyboy, but I don't think Choi SG is the right partner for Chae YJ yet (not enough experience). Maybe YYS can raise her up too?

Japan has a similar problem though, with Arisa Higashino and her lad (who's name I momentarily forget). It's frustrating, especially when my 2020 Tokyo dream final is on the line...
