What else can he say? A coup d'etat like the one which nearly succeeded against MF means he will lose his bread and butter, just joking.

Let's not argue for argument's sake. Lin Dan has done it and proved all his critics wrong and shut all the detractors up with sterling performances this one over month. How Lin Dan beat Viktor Axelsen, the bunch of young hopefuls, a couple of usual suspects, and then now LCW ? What more is there to say ?

LD has achieved his final goal.
Time to retire while you are at the top.

Beating LCW in Malaysia has to be up there with his greatest wins.

Why ? What has Lin Dan got to lose if he carries on playing ? Hasn't he been humiliated enough in 2015 and the Rio Olympics before ?

Whatever, just Lin Dan's past accomplishments alone, second to none, is enough to justify anything he wishes to do as far as badminton is concerned. Who else has the luxury and entitlement to do what he's doing ?

Why don't you ask LCW to retire, after he had taken the All England ? Then he'd be spared today's painful defeat in front of his MAS fans at the hands of his old archrival. But, personally, I want LCW to continue as long as possible, as he seems to be Lin Dan's only motivation to carry on longer than we expected; I really hope so.

Lin Dan and Lee CW are inseparable, their badminton fates are intertwined, serving to push each other forward. And I'm loving it.

Precisely, not so much for the title itself, obviously, but more for beating his number one rival on his turf in a tournament that he practically owned; that's the sweetest part and, to make it better,Lin Dan did it in the waning years of his career when most people are skeptical about his capability.

Chong Wei seemed almost invincible in Malaysia, so to beat him really took something special

Not to mention in clean straight sets, too. Didn't even need to go into deuce.

And, if I may add, Lin Dan is not playing like Super Dan anymore - unlike LCW who is still playing like LCW, his age notwithstanding, hats off to him - and yet Lin Dan, with his superlative racquet skills, finesse in stroke play, minus the speed and power of his younger days, is able to defy seemingly insurmountable odds as to bedazzle us against all opposition. How gratifying for us Lin Dan fans.

    I suspect something fishy.
LCW can't possibly lose with such score.
I don't have the answer now.
Maybe in a few year's time.

You mean LCW contrived to lose to Lin Dan in Malaysia, in front of all his fanatic MAS fans, shown on TV and probably watched by the royal family and top government officials who supported him, a premier tournament that he owns and has a reputation to protect, and , of all person, to his 'archenemy' who caused him so many heartaches in his career ?

What about national honour, glory, and everything that he stands to gain or lose, his special, unique status in Malaysia ? Need I say more ? Unimaginable. Crazy. You obviously don't know LCW, and such an insinuation is an insult to him.

It's just another game. Of course for Lin Dan to win for the first time and LCW not able to defend his title... It is rather significant for both of them.

But don't take away the fact they are one of the greatest players of all time. Their battles will carry on till they retire.

The rest of the players are just not their level.

So, today's defeat at the finals is Lee Chong Wei's second time lost in the FINALS of MAS OPEN.

The 1st defeat occurred at his very first finals, lost to Chen Long Chen Hong, in 2003! {thx racketman123 for spotted that error} :p

In 2005 and 2006 Dato Lee beat Lin Dan in the finals!

Here's the related MS Winners as of 2003 to date of MALAYSIA OPEN (SS/SSP):

Lee Chong Wei's defeat to Lin Dan in 2017 (19-21, 14-21 in 55 minutes) is his second defeat in the finals.

As some might have said here, Dato might just feel rather bored that he had too much here so he decided to throw it away today... thus lucky Dan there to pick up... ha ha ha :p:D

Or if any one needs an excuse just blames it to Kuching. Just realized that it's hosted in Kuching, Borneo Island instead of the usual KL.
