There might be rumours that BWF World Championships might be renamed as Lin Dan Championships.

    From wikipedia

The Cup is named after **** Sudirman, a former Indonesian badminton player and the founder of the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI).

Wrong? Oops. I includes a 'h' in it.
We can find so many such names in South India. Even my nephew's name is 'Sudhir' .
    It's a 100% indian name.
I wonder some of Indonesian people might have migrated from india long long time back.
For e.g.: Nithya maheshwari is a traditional indian name in South India.

She's Nitya Maheswari a common name was girls in Java o read somewhere one of her parents are related to Papua New Guinea. Both the cultures share ancient History from the Ramayana times. Esp Bali, so yeah it's not uncommon that many Indonesian and Thai names resembles with the Indian ones, although often with Lil change in spellings.

Yes there's Hindu influence in Indonesian culture and religion. Not surprising that some Indonesian names resemble those in India.

Not surprising at all, considering the fact that all civilizations was trading in every place they can find a few thousand years ago.

    http://bwfsudirmancup.com/2017/05/korea-head-in-with-young-blood-total-bwf-sudirman-cup-2017/

    Excerpt:
Three-time champions Korea head in to the TOTAL BWF Sudirman Cup 2017 in Gold Coast dependent on a mostly emerging set of players.
Korea, the last non-Chinese team to win the Sudirman Cup, will hope their young and relatively untested players deliver at the World Mixed Team Championships that will be held from 21 to 28 May.

China will be wary of group-mates Thailand and Hong Kong in sub-group 1A.

Malaysia were dealt a blow with Mixed Doubles Olympic silver medallist Goh Liu Ying forced to skip the event due to injury trouble. Malaysia will field some fresh faces with players like Lee Zii Jia and Cheah Yee See making their foray at this level of competition.

The Japanese have some accomplished women players, but the Men’s Singles could be of concern as their spearhead is Kenta Nishimoto (No.61).

Indonesia have been weakened by the non-availability of Rio Olympic gold medallist Liliyana Natsir and the injury derailment of Nitya Krishinda Maheswari. Of particular concern to them will be the Women’s Singles, with emerging players like Gregoria Mariska and Dinar Dyah Ayustine having to shoulder the responsibility.

Newly-crowned OUE Singapore Open champion Sai Praneeth is missing from the Indian line-up, but they have a strong Men’s Singles squad comprising of Ajay Jayaram, HS Prannoy and Kidambi Srikanth. The Indians, given their strength in singles, will sniff a chance against Indonesia in hoping to qualify for the knock-out stage.

Really cant see India advancing - they'd have to win a doubles match, which I dont see happening against either DEN or INA....lets see, but my guess is INA and DEN advancing, with DEN having one of the most evened out squads of all teams, only lacking a strong WS, with CHN having the strongest overall squad with no weak discipline at all...really looks like a CHN win to me this year. DEN will probably give them a good fight if they meet, but I'd favor CHN in MS (66-34 ish if CL plays), WS (80-20), MD (55-45), XD (60-40)....that's two upsets DEN needs.
JPN still lacks MS and XD strength, but has a pretty good overall squad too with strong MD and WD and good WS...those three should realistically end up in the Semis, if the tournament structure allows it (not sure).

    ^ Yeah, neither do I
Even in the absence of Nitya and Natsir I highly doubt the odds of Indian taking a match in doubles. Team INA 's experience is self sufficient . Plus Jojo can surprise KS on his day

ACTUALLY, even though JPN has recently proved themselves in team events and even though they are packing most stable WD in the circuit. I don't fancy their chances much.
Let alone the main title contenders this year, CHN , KOR , and Den, Jon can even end up losing to Tha (MS WS XD) , INA (MS, XD, MD) , MAL(MS, MD, XD).

KOR is not a title contender with their squad. JPN has a much better one than them.
