So, this new pairing was formed as a result of their respective partners retiring from the national team. Not sure what others make of this pairing but in my eyes this pairing really does not work - at all. They are certainly both experienced enough to see off most sub-top ten players but they are not in my view able to contend with the elite and challenge for titles. Neither of them seem to be supporting each other. YYS seems to have gone back to his old ways of just getting drives back, without thinking about where to place it. KGJ is just not a threat at the net, and also seems to be driving everything back over the net rather than setting up YYS. Both of them desperately need a good forecourt partner. I think they should do what China did and pair these senior, more experienced players with their younger new members of the national team to bring them up quickly. KBA are in a bit of a crisis at the moment. Not only have they lost their best doubles player, but also so many other senior players at the same time, with no succession plan initiated must be quite concerning. Let's hope they have some young prodigies up their sleeves, otherwise they might have to begging for the those retired players to come out of retirement. Which may not be such a bad thing, given they are all still relatively young?
too bad they do not accept players in the naional team at any point of time but during the selections, if not Lyd would have returned Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Pretty disappointed with BKA. After the olympics, focus should have moved to Choi SolGyu (who's the only male successor worth talking about at the moment). Should have paired Chae YooJung with Ko SungHyun before he left, dropped Kim HaNa and brought in a few youngsters. I guess they have WD going for them, and Son WanHo could have a good future. Their WS is getting long in the tooth, their MD is decimated and XD never fully existed in the first place. I'm taking solace in the fact that Japan seems to have gotten it very much right.
The premise of this thread seems flawed. Why bother arguing against the wisdom of a scratch pairing? Kim Ki Jung and Yoo Yeon Seong have only played together at one tournament, the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships. Yoo Yeon Seong has been paired with Kim Jae Hwan for the first four Superseries events, in which Kim Ki Jung has been entered with Choi Sol Gyu. In other words, this is exactly what the original poster suggested. Yoo's partner is 10 years younger and Kim's partner is 5 years younger. Isn't that what is meant by "pair these senior, more experienced players with their younger new members of the national team"? By the way, Korea's youngest players were all in action at the Osaka International this week.
Li/Liu cant make it. wonder how they are number 1.maybe they play more tours thats all. i think they purposely lose to angga ricky.just too afraid to face kevin markus
Looking forwards to it. YYS / KJH got a reasonable result, though KJH looks very green at the moment.
That seems doubtful. There are only two active pairs that Li/Liu have never beaten: Chai/Hong and Ellis/Langridge and in the latter case, they've only played once. world #1 is in a state of flux because no one is dominant yet. Only 3 pairs have won more than one SS title in the past year and one of these is gone because Lee Yong Dae retired. In fact, of the top 30 events last year, 12 were won by pairs that have since disbanded. In the case of Gideon/Sukamuljo, they have won a lot of SS titles but when they didn't win, they failed to reach the semis. Li/Liu won only one title but overall, they reached more finals and semis but it is also true that they didn't take the break that the Indonesians did and so none of their first-round losses were among the 10 events used for their rankings. Also, Gideon and Sukamuljo have few team points because their ranking was low during the Thomas Cup and they didn't play in the Asian Mixed Team event. It remains to be seen whether any men's doubles pair will emerge to dominate the rankings. What is clear is that it won't be Kim Ki Jung / Yoo Yeon Seong because they are not a pair.
Kim Ki Jung and Yoo Yeon Seong Removed from Korean National Team Roster Are the senior players being forced to retire? They don't need to pick them for the 2020 Olympics but the youngsters can learn from them and use their experience. Link: http://www.badzine.net/2017/05/and-...yoo-and-kim-complete-korean-doubles-sign-off/ Excerpt: Today the names of former world #1 Yoo Yeon Seong and #2 Kim Ki Jung were removed from the roster of the Korean national badminton team. Such a development is tantamount to retirement from international badminton ranking tournaments. Yoo and Kim are the last of six Koreans who took up all but two podium spots at the 2014 BWF World Championships and have accounted for a combined 114 titles in men’s and mixed doubles, dating back to the 2006 German Open.
Apparently, they retired. Not what the headlines suggested; as if they got forcibly downgraded or removed or kicked. Guess there was no fun mucking about when you were top 10 or world #1 and now getting shamed around big time. Zhang Nan and Li YinHui is one, lol seeing how LYH got stressed out during intervals..... poor thing. Trial by actual fire burning could have been less taxing.
Even if they have talent, they need people to raise them to the next level. Whilst I don't belive KGJ would be a great teacher, KSH and YYS are big losses.
