Yep, nothing against Chang and Lee; my stress here is with CQC and JYF (especially CQC). Despite performing poor in previous matches, you are selected over Bao and Tang who are former world #1s, expected to prevail or at least put up a fight with their experience. Looking at all five matchups I think all played out the way it should be except for the WD which could've been the turning point. Lu and Huang on paper are expected to win XD anyway, but the pressure of being in the tiebreaker probably got into them.
Congratulations to the Koreans! That's exactly why sporting events are so captivating, as the impossible can unfold right before your eyes. Sporting events not relying on judges, that is.
China's team is a M-shaped or M-form. some very experienced members with lots of gold medals who had gone to least two Olympics (eg, FHF, LD, Zhang Nan, Chen Long) a lot of members with less than 3 years of experience and had never gone to the Olympics.. very very few people in-between..
Indeed, you're right, either very experienced or youth, very few in-between. And it's the veterans who delivered the best results, specifically the four names you mentioned.
Any info on why Korea didn't select Son Wan Ho to play? He's been an absolutely vital part of their success imop, winning all his matches and leading them into the final....was he too tired from these last days, has he picked up an injury, was it a purely tactical choice by Kang to protect his star player...? Because the way I see it, they sacrificed the MS completely by fielding JHJ, and SWH has a great record against CL at team events.
For all cup competitions (ie, Thomas/Uber/Sudirman), China's team should consist of the following people as a matter of policy: (a) 25% veterans (three-time Olympians) (b) 25% seniors (two-time Olympians) (c) 25% mid-rank (one-time Olympians) (d) 25% juniors (zero Olympic experience)
Choi and Chae played to win in the last match, all the way to the end, no getting nervous or coward because leading and close to win like Kevin /Gideon in the INA- DEN match.
Can anyone enlighten me why on earth Korea did not select Son Wan Ho? Makes no sense to me unless he is seriously injured.
According to a lengthy article I was pm'ed, he was tired from all the previous matches. Tired enough so that his chances of winning were less than 10%, apparently, which is how likely it might have been for JHJ to win....or less than that. Anyhow, better to protect your star player and give someone else some experience than to risk injury and have the #1 play when they have next to no chance of winning, I guess
Where were Ko Sung Hyun and Kim Ha Na? What happened to all the korean MD pairs? Not one pair in the Top50 eventhough Korean used to be THE nation with superb MD pairs? Did I miss something? :-S
The MD people you are thinking about retired. Not sure about Kim Ha Na though. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk
Korea won even with the big male double players (LYD,KSH,YYS,SBC). That shows great team spirit with younger player stepping up and delivering when it was needed.
She was there, played and won group match with JKE, I really would like to see them reunited in Intl events.
You seem to have missed the retirement of KimKim as well as SBC and KSH stepping down from the ntl team....didnt you notice that none of them played the last couple of tournaments?
