It's his backhand net play defensively that is garbage. A lot of players namely JOJ, Chen Long and LCW have been exploiting that weakness in recent years.

exactly. all the great athletes/teams do it in every sport. they know you can't win every time. it's a concept lost on fanboys.

down 10-14 in the 3rd tty goes on a 11-2 primarily offensive tear to close it out. who else can do that against pvs? i cannot say pvs blew it at all. she played great. the problem with beating tty is she pressures you to play perfect every point. when you're winning you know she's still coming so it's a matter of how you deal with it. not knowing what shot she's going to pull out of her tool box at any moment is frustrating. it appeared tty's backhand snap-smash startled pvs late in the 3rd game. no other ws player has ever possessed that shot. it's taufik-like.

tty, pvs, yamaguchi & okuhara are the cream of the crop right now. they are just turned 23, 21, just turned 20(!) and 22 respectively... and fast! this is by far the best time for ws in the history of badminton. hands down best discipline to watch.

I think I remember Steen commenting that this is legend era for WS. Similar to legend era for MS around 2005ish??

But yeah definitely love watching WS now. Didn't go anywhere near it before.

i wouldn't call it struggling. the way she played today was a big step forward in her comeback. even though she lost i thought she looked really good compared to last tournament. just a little off in accuracy. nothing serious.

@ 37(!) lhi is at the top of his game. the zen master of badminton.

thw is pretty smooth but he uses a lot of core and upper body energy for smashing. lhi uses opportunity and angle.

srikanth is starting to play up to the level many knew he would eventually reach. he's becoming a serious threat now. i've always liked his style of play.

Dunno if the fact that the Guangdong Badminton Club still hasn't paid him & 7 CHN players + 2 other TPE players (yes, more & more players are coming out thanks to LD's high profile reveal) has affected him-- strangest thing is why/ how the CHN badminton super league or the Guangdong club kept going despite years of financial troubles... yes the club changed ownership recently, but the new owners inherited and ignored the debts just like the old owners.

Maybe roadside eateries can start sponsoring and buying up clubs in the Chinese badminton super league.

As she said he is just oozing confidence. Playing his natural game with more self belief like we all expected him to do when he was having a meteoric rose in his rankings.
Anyways late then never, Let's go KS
