From the last changing rules applied by BAM, here is the progress on short time: Six club players join BAM to bolster mixed doubles department http://www.thestar.com.my/sport/bad...join-bam-to-bolster-mixed-doubles-department/
But you know, the decline of Malaysian badminton has been going on a long time. In that time of decline, Malaysian badminton has still produced juniors who get to the finals of the World Junior and Asian Junior Championships. So definitely, Malaysian badminton has the talent and work ethic at junior levels. But when they get into BAM, BAM cannot consistently transition them into adult world beaters. That's why I doubt one can place full blame saying it's mostly the players problem and they don't practice enough. Why can only one player keep up a consistent high level? Is it that he is the statistical outlier player in BAM?
@Cheung It is necessary for club players to join with BAM because they has better facilities like newly built ABM Academy, better sport science research in collaboration with local universities, and the huge amount of fund that will help the players, not to mention a lot of coaches are available, some of them are legends like Misbun and Cheah Soon Kit. All in all, I believe young club players won't develop as much as BAM players, technically.
Agree with you. Clubs can make player to develop a good foundation and they should move forward to BAM to further develop since facility, financial and etc. are much better. IMO.
This is not actually answering the question I posed. So I will repeat the problem for you. Yes. I too believe the facilities are better within BAM. But you claim the other players don't work enough. Yet many work hard enough to be the top juniors in the world before getting into BAM. So do you think when they get to BAM they change attitude into not practicing or working hard or long enough? If so, why?
Even Morten Frost admit that player like Soo Teck Zhi failed to perform consistently despite a few year of training and good facilities. MF said that STZ needs to step up. They might reduce their training time and content with current result, that's that. Not every player can work hard every like LCW once did under Li Mao and Misbun. So take MF's statement carefully.
Also top junior doesn't mean anything in the senior world if they stay at the same level until the end. Kento Momota and Axelsen found ways to improve their skill while player like Zulfadli, Teck Zhi and others play like junior level.
first of all, LCW during junior time (17-21 years old) got influence in the old time compatriots Wong Choong Hann, Ong Ewe Hock, Lee Tsuen Seng, Hafiz Hashim and Roslin Hashim, as that time the social things like FB, youtube, Kpop, smartphones not yet assist, thus they just keep focus on training and their badminton career... now all the youngsters (LCW's juniors) are in advanced of social things, thus lose focus on training and badminton career...
good to hear your input. Social media also available in other countries and affects their juniors. Does social media affect Malaysian juniors more than in other countries?
How about Axelsen though? He is a socmed maniac, one can argue the European lifestyle help him in distinguishing between socmed and training though But then how about Intanon, Marin, TTY, and Sapsiree even Jia Yifan uses a lot of Instagram It may well be an important factor though, that public recognition really bolster their exposure such that low achievement already accepted as a good result (not necessirily bad, but it's just that they can actually reach even higher). A scientific study should be done on this though, a very interesting topic. Maybe one of you can propose this project to BAM? or PBSI hahaa
actually BAM should implement this program to our players so that they can make improvement, they end up too dependent over LCW only...
Dunno. China doesn't look as strong as before. Why would Malaysian players be adversely affected more by social media compared to other countries? Quite intriguing.
I seems obvious from Cheung questions that the training program/general work frame at BAM is at fault, but the reason why is to be determined.
Well, few weeks ago was watching one tournament from the stand. A Malaysian playing was playing... Anyway after she lose her game, she took her stuff, and just laid at one corner playing her phone. There is no coach around, a staff of the team spoke a few eords, literally a few only with her, and she sat there resting n playing her phone. I was like, hmmm, its so sad for a life of a player, isn't it? Anyway i do have an issue with BAM new policy of not allowing non BAM player to join GPG and SS events. Thats really a violation to players rights
As if any one of them can win a Superseries event without further training with better facilities and coaches.
Yes, hardly anyone can win a SS tournament, but GPG? And doesn't need to be winning it. Need to just get a good result

well, if all they do in training is "spar", i doubt any player can be a world beaters. They will only feed nice shuttle to opponent to kill it cause thats what they do best.
