If Momota had been registered here, he could play through qualification round since Pierrick Cajot (WR 148) from 8th reserved player got PFR. Momota was not registered at Bitburger GPG. He will play at Macau GPG (7th November).

Yes, it's good to take a break recollect your thoughts and have a second go, but he'ss just being really harsh on himself. Extraordinary WC and he redeemed himself in Japan and was on the verge of winning against KS in that match, shouldn't be bothered that much imo. Anyways wish him luck.

Yeah Axelsen is harsh on himself. You cant win all the time. He is still world number 1 even he got knocked out in R1 for 3 consecutive tournament. Of course ,unless he is injured. Cant always analyse thing because of one defeat especially if its the 2 points that could have win him the match vs SK ( or maybe one, SK was down match point i believe)
I suppose VA felt a bit jaded, probably mentally tired. I think, he just want to regather his thoughts and regroup. I never thought any player would withdraw from any tournament because he's afraid to face a particularly difficult opponent, no such thing, baseless. Withdrawing simply means forgoing the chance to win, would any player do so from, say, the WC or OG or any prestigious tournaments, on that ground? Unthinkable.
Face it, Axelsen is mentally weak. Did Peak Lin Dan™ ever do this nonsense -- withdrawing from the next tourney after a defeat by lying about an "injury"? Nope, never.
I doubt so. Only the 5 PSS are mandatory for the top 10 players, of the 7 SS, they are allowed to skip two. If VA doesn't feel like playing the French SS, so be it. No big deal, I won't read too much into it. He may or do have some mental fragility issues, such as his temperaments, but that is no excuse for skipping tournaments to avoid any difficult opponent. If it is any important tournament, I'm sure he will play. As for his injury, well, just give him or any player the benefit of the doubt. Like I said, even if a player simply feels out of sorts and wish to skip a not-so-important tournament, i.e.not compulsory, so what ? Btw, why wasn't he scared of Kento Momota before ?
If he had won against Kidambi in that match, he would've played instead of withdrawing. He wouldn't have invented an injury. It's obvious. The only reason he doesn't feel like playing French SS is because of his loss against Kidambi. That is it. Otherwise ask yourself -- why did he register for French SS in the first place? Because before the Denmark Open result, he wanted to play. #mentallyweak
Up to you if that's what you think. I'm sure if the French Open is important enough, say he needed the ranking points to qualify for the WC/OG, he will never skip it unless he's seriously injured. I mean, if I were VA's coach and he tells me he's scared of a particular opponent and wants to avoid playing him, I'd just tell him to quit professional badminton. A far-fetched thought. Even LCW, whom his coach, Tey Seu Bok,was reported to have said that he often choked when playing Lin Dan, never gave that as an excuse even when he's more reason to do so, their H2H record is telling. Like I said, VA never avoided KM who beat him more often than KS, so it's implausible to make that kind of assumption. Let's just agree to disagree.
