I think we can all agree that men are just much better at badminton or almost all sports, that's why they separate the two genders. My question is, how much do you think the difference is? What if Tai Tzu Ying compete in the Men's division, what do you think her rank would be? I know she will beat me pretty easily but would she even make it to the world stage? Is she even better than an advanced men's club player? Would some of us beat her (mseeley?) in your opinion? As a comparison, in tennis, an out of shape ranked 200th men player beat both Serena and Venus Williams (back then a top 10 women player) with ease.
I can agree men have the advantage of height, strength and speed. However, purely for the the skills, I think it is quite even. Advanced club player variation in standard is pretty large.
I agree, the technical skills of women are quite equal or even better in some cases. It's just too bad that without the strength and speed, it translates to lower level. But how much lower it is I think is different in different sport.
No matter what people try to tell me, the difference overall (not just technique, footwork) is massive. There have been numerous examples. Wang Yihan getting absolutely destroyed by a University player (back when she won the WC). Retired Peter Gade toying with Christin Tsai. Can't remember who it was, but somebody on here mentioned that Marin beats Abian in training under 10 points; now that's just ridiculous. I don't think TTY would be in the Top 50, maybe not even Top 100.
You don't even have to look at the professional circuit. You can have a look at your club. Here in Germany a woman has to play at least 2, sometimes 3 leagues higher to seriously challenge a man.
When I was a U19 player, my (worse than me) partner and me could easily beat a Regionalliga (third highest German league) WD in training. It wasn't competitive, but that might have been interesting. I've become better since, especially in doubles, but I still play at a far lower level than that league.
If it is a university player in China, then that person probably could be entering international competitions lol.
A top university player is of a very high standard. I remember Malaysian team players used to play for universities in the UK.
Honestly don't know but Markis Kido played in the World University games. Tang Yuan Ting played in the Olympics and left for University. My friend is an ex European junior silver medallist and studied medicine . The Ng sisters of Malaysia left BAM and played for Loughborough University and entered the Allengland at the same time. Kenn Lim(lin?) I think had a world ranking and went to Leeds Metropolitan University and basically became the best University singles in UK. I have another friend who got to a world ranking of 40 and went to University. And look who played in the University games summer 2017 in Taiwan giving up an opportunity to play in the World Championships.... Although these are special examples, there must be others so a University player might be quite special.
I think what Rob3rt is saying is that specific university player wasn't at that level. So few are. But even if he is Kenn Lim level (quite low in men's world ranked standard), to beat a woman world champion easily just shows the difference in level.
Very good! It's quite hard to find videos like these where the man is actually playing seriously though.
I am pretty sure that Lin Dan can easily defeat May if he wants in a much more humiliating fashion than what Lee Chong Wei did to Shi Yuqi in 2017 All England Final.
