It's me again. I see that you've been here for a looong time. I don't know if you have by now got a better understanding of Lin Dan's smash dynamics.

Take a look at this video: start at 00:09...

I don't understand what he is doing differently nor how he is doing it. I just know it is very different to any player and looks waaaaay cooler.

Could you explain if you have any intel?

LD's smash peaked in this tournament. Go watch his SF against LCW, it was absolutely deadly.

There's something amazing about LD. His legs, core, and arm muscles are incredible. Not only that but his technique and timing is impeccable. And so is his anticipation and footwork.

Here's a super slow mo of his racket work in smashes and backhand shots.

Do you think that there is that much difference in his arms, legs and core muscles compared to other top players like LCW or CL? CL looks pretty beast. And LCW has an even more powerful smash. {Unless LD is like the reincarnation of Bruce Lee!!!!}.

But LD's smashes feel more steep and sudden. I'm thinking then it might be more because of his anticipation. Even VA's 3mt smashes do not feel as crisp as LD's.

Does he hold the racket differently? I googled that and all I see is about his racket's tape. I mean his grip itself is it differently from all other players?

I have no intention to try copy him but I always wondered about it. None of his strokes looks normal. It seems that he slices every shot.

Nah, LD is much more beast than CL.

And LD does not slice on power shots. Perhaps only appears so due to pronation.

Damn I was sure CL was waaay more buff than that :0 Yeah LD is a monster.

I've been looking at his training videos and it seems that he has the same grip.

I heard that left-handed players tend to have a steeper and faster smash compared to right-handers
