Commonwealth Games, again already? It has snuck up, quietly. I haven’t noted any hype in Canadian news. In the old days, our media used to loudly proclaim upcoming CG’s because it was the only international games in which we had a chance to win gold in something. (Plus we actually cared about the Queen, back then). Good luck with the Games, Australia.

Our news channels replicate now Since, the watershed at New Delhi where the bested England. Glasgow was a horrible outing, GC2018 is expected to be way better. Esp as far as badminton is concerned. PVS "missing" two Outta two against LM was a rather hard to digest bummer for the former and her fans.
LCW announced sometime back the CG Gold is his target. He's expected to bring it home unless the IND players are up to denying him. Is Srikanth taking part ? How about Praneeth, Prannoy, Verma and Varma , all of whom are no easy meat for the living legend ? Rajiv Ouseph of UK has an outside chance. The rest are cannon fodder.
Almost 12 years ago at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games 2006. Together with some other BC members, we met at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. We even had time to socialize and played some badminton together, as we did in Jakarta for the Thomas and Uber Cup 2008 competitions, where our BC member Rudy was instrumental in arranging VIP treatment for us. Then, up-and-coming India was not as strong as she is today and Malaysia was the team to beat. In the total medal count, Singapore was slightly better than India with a silver and a bronze against India's two bronze medals. However India was delirious in winning the team bronze by overcoming New Zealand. And all eyes were on the very young and talented Saina Nehwal who made a great impression as a singles player. Some pictures from the Melbourne Games are attached below:
In this Gold Coast Games, Malaysia still has a chance to prove herself again as the dominant badminton country in the Commonwealth.. During the Melbourne Games, India made a good impression as she took the team bronze and Chetan took the MS bronze behind Malaysians Wong Choong Hann and Lee Chong Wei, the eventual champion.
Pleasant memories on badminton, especially with like-minded BC friends must not be forgotten especially when the Games have returned to Australia.
Any news on how seriously MAS is taking this, aka is Lee Chong Wei going (at least for the team events, like in the SEA games)? Otherwise ENG will probably get something to thumb their nose at their Olympic Council...
I hope LCW will grace the occasion and test himself against the strong Indian contingent. It will be great to see him up on the podium again with the champion trophy after almost 12 years since his victory in Melbourne. But Malaysia may want to expose their young players in preparation for the Thomas and Uber Cups to be held about a month later in Bangkok, Thailand.
LCW will probably not be contending the MS title, if that's what you mean -- he has not played MS in the Commonwealth and SEA games for years, cos it's just not fair to the rookies...
