Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying beat Satwik Rankireddy/Ashwini Ponappa in 2 games. Ashwini was tired and unable to raise her game. 21-19, 21-19
But gotta say that she has lots of energy to put up that hard fight and eventually winning a bronze in women doubles against Australians. My God she must have been so tired. Hats off to her
I think this is inexperience coming through, right? She is quite young. Also, fewer opportunities to play against high quality opponents. Is her service a bit shaky at times?
Nerves. Sikki Reddy struggles to maintain composure in tight matches. She can make service faults, miss easy smashes and taps.
She is one of very few remaining doubles players to be disadvantaged with the forehand serve. Considering she's still young and can change, I'm quite surprised her coaches allow that and have not insisted and forced her to switch to the backhand serve. Because of her serve (like Jwala Gupta, Aswini's previous partner who so happens to be another lefty who also is disadvantaged with the forehand serve), her WD pairing with Aswini and similarly XD with Satwig will be unable to compete with the highest ranked pairs.
Yeah, that is a rarity and a disadvantage. On the other hand, there are so few people serving from that angle, the opponents also need to be careful when receiving. I think overall, it puts pressure on herself from the very beginning of the rally and hence in tight situations, you see the perceived 'choking'.
Yeah, perhaps with this new 115 cm service height rule, she can still make the most of her serve by threatening to serve more high or drive serves. But still, as you said, the unnecessary pressure on her serve, especially after having fought hard to win back the serve in the previous rally...
India in 3 Finals. India assured of Gold and Silver in WS, possible Gold in MS and MD. This will be the first time MD gets an individual medal for India.
I wonder if Malaysia has any WS player or not ..or their whole team depends on LCW. I wonder what would happen to malaysian team after LCW retires
Unbelievable stuff from SN. Was down and under in g2 but what determination and persistant attack, crawled back to seal the Gold.
One game to the good for KS. What a match it has been from both the players, fast and furious, amazing badminton.
Seems like Saina is really motivated now and is almost 100% fit, it's no easy task to beat Sindhu in straight games. Congratulations to her, there still a lot more good badminton left in her, she is here to stay, surely.
