Lee Chong Wei will eye 12th time MAS Open crown after failed in final last year in Kuching, lost to long-time archrival Lin Dan. The Malaysian hero has very tough draw in his bid to seek glory once again at homesoil. Lee will take on Kazumasa Sakai at opening round and slated to meet World Champion Viktor Axelsen and one of the Chinese trio, Lin Dan-Chen Long-Shi Yuqi in last four. On bottom-half draw, man on fire Kento Momota who’s unbeatable at the moment will start his campaign against Indonesian number one Anthony Ginting. Some top names in his path, Indian Kidambi Srikanth, Taiwanese Chou Tien Chen and Korean ace Son Wan Ho. WS defending champion Tai Tzu Ying should secure quarterfinal spot and she’s pitted against familiar opponent Sung Ji Hyun and heavyweight opponents either The Olympic Champion Carolina Marin or Indian leading lady Pusarla V.Sindhu. Two Japanese starlets, Akane Yamaguchi and Nozomi Okuhara occupy same half of draw alongside with Ratchanok Intanon, Saina Nehwal and Chinese hopefuls Chen Yufei, He Bingjiao. An intriguing tie will occurs in first round, Chen YF v Nozomi Okuhara and possible meeting, Saina Nehwal v Akane Yamaguchi in last sixteen. The incredible Minions Gideon/Sukamuljo lead INA men’s doubles squad, they will meet real test on quarterfinal Danish combination Conrad/Kolding and Liu C/Zhang N or Kamura/Sonoda in final four. The world number one pair didn’t deliver excellent performance and looked quite struggling in Thomas Cup last month. Lack of participants in WD category, a rarity landscape in top-tier tournaments. World Champion Chen QC/Jia YF, Juhl/Pedersen, Lee SH/Shin SC and a strings of Japanese top-ranked are the favourites to clinch the title, Indonesian number one Polii/Rahayu skip this event. Indonesian high-profile mixed doubles duo Ahmad/Natsir, Asian Champion Wang YL/Huang DP and China new hotshots Zheng SW/Huang YQ will be pre-tournament strongest contender to claim top prize, with the Olumpic Champion will meet tough foe Zheng/Huang in semifinal. Wang YL/Huang DP have home hurdles in last eight and one of possible semifinal opponents, HKG left-handers duo Tang CM/Tse YS, Christiansen/Pedersen or the reigning All England champion Watanabe/Higashino.
I just noticed Tan Boon Heong and Yoo Yeon Song are playing together. Hoping to see YYS with LYD again any time this year.
Shi Yuqi passes stern test against Rajiv Ouseph, the opening game is crucial for the Chinese, he leads most times but the Englishman always catching up and gives pressure to his younger opponent until Shi wins narrowly, 24-22. In game 2, more confidence and relax Shi develops his game plan while Ouseph starts to commit errors, it's too late to make comeback, from 5-11 then 14-19 despite nothing to lose Englishman still fighting to outmaneuver the All England champion but it's not enough to deny the Chinese last sixteen spot, 21-17. At TV court, another MS top-ranked Viktor Axelsen also experiences hard times to clear first round hurdle. Khosit Phetpradab can balance world number one in first game, 17-21 then plays really aggressively to conquer his more-fancied rival in second set, 21-18 but it's impacted he runs out of steam at deciding game as the World Champion in cruise control mode, 13-21.

anyone watched Tommy vs Sameer just now? what happened to SV? under normal circumstances i doubt he could lose with such big margin of a score
Looks like Chen Long gon' lose today. Great stuff from Wangcharoen so far. He's also playing at the faster side of the court now in the second game which complements his sharp attacks. Keep this up after the interval and he'll win.
Chen long should realize by now that he can't rely too much on his physicality to overpower most of his opponents as more and more players are improving in that regard. He really has to hone his skills further and read his opponents game better based on his experience.
