Sun Yu must play some women's doubles in practice or take up a bit of table tennis to build up her speed of movement and reflexes as well as a sense of urgency, in the hope that she can be like her great senior, Chen Long, in her physicality, athleticism and agility, with superb court coverage and attacking prowess coupled with tenacity in defense. That's my wish for her.

    Good ideas..

I think the Chinese Women Singles team already has a doubles coach on hand. I think his last name is He.

He is often seen at GP and GP Gold events. He always go to Macau; I don't know why.

I don't know, Sun Yu always appear sluggish to me, just not fast enough; to say she's slow and clumsy would be disrespectful , an exaggeration.

How I wish this big, tall girl can make her physicality count the way her male compatriot Chen Long can whose athleticism and agility are intimidating.

Even at the Super Series Finals where Sun Yun beat Marin, Sindu and Yamaguchi in successions, she looked very much hampered by her knee injuries. If Sun Yu can't recover from it, her future looks bleak. Hope the new head coach can do something about it by upgrading the physiotherapy support for the team.

In her microblog, Sun Yu wrote to her fans that: you always support me, but my body may really have to be away from you for a while......

If that means Sun Yu will take a break to heal her injury, that would be a very wise decision. As is right now, she should be able to keep her top 10 ranking but there is little hope to get any better. Regaining her health is must, if she aspires to get a WC or OG medal, or even winning some Super Series level tournaments. Wish her a speedy recovery!

So Sun Yu has been plagued by some injury problems, explains her see-saw form.

Like Chen Long who also disclosed he's not fully recovered from his thigh muscle pull months ago and will be taking a break to have it properly and thoroughly treated before resuming active competitions, it is wise for Sun Yu to do the same.

Sun Yu is 23 now, born 28 Feb 1994, time is still on her side, can afford to lay off for, say, six months and then take another six months to get fully match fit and, hopefully, raise her game another level. I admit I've been too harsh on her, pardon me, now all I wish is for her to get back into shape as soon as possible. All the best. Jiayou !

Sun Yu has to defend her ranking points from the DEN and the French Opens. She had pulled out of the DEN open losing 6050 points, and there's still another 6420 points for next week's French Open.

I wonder how she is recovering from her injury, out of practice and not fully match fit ?

Sun Yu is taking the big step to be away from the game for an extended period, in order to recover fully from her injuries. We probably won't see her on court again until next year. She is still posting to her microblog at: http://weibo.com/u/1795483885

The now 24 years old Sun Yu's first tournament post-injury return is the China National Championships 2018, still ongoing, which the none of the elite national players participated. Unfortunately, she failed to make it past the quarterfinals losing to 17-year-old Zhou Meng, born 23rd May 2001, by the score of 20-22, 13-21, two straight sets.

Zhou Meng beat Hui XiRui in the final to become the champion.

A tough start on the comeback trail for Sun Yu. Let's see what will happen. Good luck Sun Yu!
