This MAL player GJW always gives a good fight in every match against top players but end up losing.

very glad that INA does not need to rely on Minions alone now for MD

With the rise of Ginting (and maybe also JC?), I have higher expectation for Thomas Cup 2020 :D :D

And maybe also Sudirman Cup next year, but this is quite a long shot as Japan is strong in almost all categories

I hope this match would be won by Khosit.

So that Ginting would have a chance to advance to the next round.

If this is a fast hall, then the INA should have less problem progressing.

    Axelson to the next round.

.... Lin Dan wasn't just trying to avoid playing Axelson, was he?

To be world beater, he must face current top-ranked players like Axelsen & Momota.

Fast hall means a lot of errors from minions. e.g Istora. I think they prefer so so hall like AE.

I would say Tommy have a bigger chance to win this match than Shi Yuqi. :)

    10) Prannoy H.S. (IND) v Angus Ng Ka Long (HKG)

    • Indonesian hotshot Anthony Ginting makes headline in first day tournament to deliver heartbreak for home fans as their hero Lin Dan lost in three games, 24-22 / 5-21 / 19-21. Lin's form is far from expected, the veteran can't balance Ginting speed, 13 years younger opponent despite his mastery technical skill almost brought him to seal the match, unfortunately two wide shots deny his second round spot. Unsatisfactory result for Lin Dan, we'll his journey in Seoul next week.
    • Thereafter, the fully confident world number one Viktor Axelsen powers past Khosit Phetpradab, runner-up in Japan couple of days ago, 21-12 / 21-15. Unfavorable draw for Thai underdog, can't produce big upset here as he did to stun Shi Yuqi last week. Defending champion Chen Long and other notable names Son Wan Ho, Chou Tien Chen battle hard to eliminate opening hurdle.
    • Sung Ji Hyun and Akane Yamaguchi engaged in close contest to overcome Saina Nehwal and Goh Jin Wei respectively. Two Chinese young ladies He Bingjiao-Chen Yufei progress comfortably also former champion Pusarla Sindhu as well. Asian Games gold medalist Tai Tzu Ying and reigning World Champion Carolina Marin will start their campaign tomorrow.
    • A bad day for Japanese men's doubles, no less than three pairs falter simultaneously, Hoki/Kobayashi, Endo/Watanabe and their highest ranked Kamura/Sonoda, the latter conquered by INA young pair Alfian/Ardianto. Hot favourites Gideon/Sukamuljo once again will up against teammates Nayaka/Santoso and another three INA combinations at top-half draw will face seeded pairs.
    • The most interesting mixed doubles first round sees All England champion Watanabe/Higashino defeat world number nine Faizal/Widjaja in three games. INA pair need to raise their standard and consistency, it's difficult prospect to shine at top-tier tournaments post Natsir retirement. Next, the fast and furious Japanese duo will challenge Ahmad/Natsir to secure last eight berth.

Potential upset considering Shi YQ poor performance lately plus mental weakness.
