It's possible the shape and design is unchanged but the matierial has been? For instance the cushioning and sole matieral may be updated. Maybe this shoe design is perfect for him and that's why he won't change.
This is totally possible in the point of players view. Lining is sponsoring national team to profit by selling products. If Chen Long loves this model, they should sell it, not just make for him because I also want to buy this shoes~
It's very strange that the heel cushioning of 65Z, claimed to have the new Power Cushion+, is stiffer than 65X (2011, JP version). Moreover, 65X 2011 get softer upper synthetic leather in the forefoot area.

The point here is : no single model will be produced after an "update" from it has been launched for a while, let alone for 8 years. So even a sponsored like Lin Dan cannot get a brand new AT-700 or MP-99 from the sponsor even he loves them so much over the new models. So if wuldup's observation is correct, then there are a few possibilities. One is that the sponsor keeps making this particular model for Chen Long alone. Another possibility is that Chen Long found the true love for his feet and stock up this particular model on his own eight years ago !
