Badminton Asia Championships literally contains all Asia prominent shuttlers and could be translated most of world’s top names as badminton is still concentrated in Asia. This continental championships held for the first time in 1962, various cities in Asia had hosted the event and Badminton Asia Confederation is expected to enhance BAC status to be one of prestigious events, certainly it needs real breakthrough, most important part is live streaming coverage. MOMOTA REINVENTION Current World and Asia Champion Kento Momota soared and stole the limelight in BAC 2018, produced his comeback with a bang, beating Shi Yuqi, Chou Tien Chen, Lee Chong Wei and defending champion Chen Long en route to capture the title, since then Momota had transformed to supreme level with a string of achievements and snatching world number one status. Wuhan Sports Center Gymnasium will witness whether Momota could extend his title. Ups and downs performance by the Japanese ace in 2019, losing first round and being finalist in January BWF World Tour but he bounced back in March with GER Open-All England then followed by MAS Open second round shock exit but it won’t be long wait as he topped SGP Open in following week. Interesting men's singles development to notice after back to back MAS-SGP Open turnaround, the return of Lin Dan, the resurging Indonesian talents Jonatan Christie-Anthony Ginting and Indian challengers, Kidambi Srikanth, Sameer Verma to add spice in title contention. ALL EYES ON YUFEI China best hopeful Chen Yufei will be strong favourite in BAC this year following world number one and defending champion Tai Tzu Ying skips this event, another notable name also pulled out, Ratchanok Intanon. Chen displaying consistent form since won All England then Suisse Open, managed semifinalist in Kuala Lumpur. Two weeks break will reinforce her strength to be the best in Asia after bagged runner up position in last edition. Her major stumbling blocks will coming from two Japanese resilient duo, Akane Yamaguchi-Nozomi Okuhara. Some familiar top-ten faces who fill women's singles line-up, Pusarla Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, Sung Ji Hyun and He Bingjiao. INDONESIA TURN The winner’s list data displaying none of Indonesia pair topped BAC podium since the last time Kido/Setiawan did it last decade, 2009 edition. Gideon/Sukamuljo missed the event last year and eyeing to bounce back over their uninspiring performance since All England early last month. The Minions have possible scenario to meet tricky tests Han CK/Zhou HD who had defeated them twice as the last encounter the Indonesians conceded walkover in Guangzhou Finals. Kamura/Sonoda versus Alfian/Ardianto will be another much anticipated last eight script. Li JH/Liu YC who seek Asian meet hat-trick are drawn with Endo/Watanabe and the rejuvenating veterans Ahsan/Setiawan. WORLD NUMBER ONE EARLY STING Fukushima/Hirota will find difficult obstacles to start their campaign, defending the title, none but the nemesis Du Y/Li YH who’re showing significant leap on the occasion lately. A stunning head to head stats mentions that the Japanese never won Chinese second-ranked pair in three previous meetings including the last one in Mulheim an der Ruhr, March 2019. Looking at the draw, top-three Japan combinations reign seeding position and barring any big upsets, reigning All England Champions Chen QC/Jia YF will take on the Olympic Champion Matsutomo/Takahashi in last four. TITLE COLLECTION HUNTING After accomplished All England mission, current world’s best mixed doubles combination Zheng/Huang will seek elusive Asian Champion crown to complete their illustrious career. Last year, the Chinese ambition halted by Rio Olympic Gold medalists Ahamd/Natsir in semifinal with two straight-sets but the Indonesians failed in finale to Wang YL/Huang DP. World number one pair will be tested by the awaken Malaysian duo Tan KM/Lai PJ in opening round. The landscape looks quite patchy at bottom half draw where only two seeded left, defending champion Wang/Huang and the on-fire Dechapol/Taerattanachai. *WITHDRAWAL LIST - MS : Liew Daren (MAS) - WS : Goh Jin Wei (MAS), Ratchanok Intanon (THA), Pornpawee Chochuwong) - MD : Isara/Jongjit (THA), George/Shukla (IND), Attri/Reddy (IND) - WD : Tanaka/Yonemoto (JPN), Chaladchalam/Muenwong (THA) - XD : Alshannik/Amro (JOR), Goh SH/Lai (MAS), Seo SJ/Chae YJ (KOR) QUALIFICATION & XD R/32 (10.00am & 01.40pm) => https://www.tournamentsoftware.com/...A30699-7C75-40EE-BE6C-930BF23B8736&d=20190423
With regard to men's singles, the bottom-half of the draw looks far thornier than the top-half. Chen Long may well prove an obstacle at the SF stage, but barring that, Momota as a comparatively easy path to the final.
That's the problem for this continental event, always lack of live streaming, possibly started from quarterfinal round.
Most of mixed doubles title contenders have difficult test to pass opening hurdle, Zheng/Huang dropped second game against Tan/Lai then defending champion Wang YL/Huang DP were pushed into the limit to beat the low-ranked Indonesians Prasetya/Islami if we look the tight scoreline, 20-22 / 21-18 / 21-17. Also 5th seed Chan PS/Goh LY almost sent packing early by SGP duo Chrisnanta/Tan WH. Japanese number one Higashino/Watanabe edged out Thais Phuangphuapet/Amitrapai, 21-19 / 22-20. Another close match shows Faizal/Widjaja prevail, won over the defunct Chinese pair, Zhang N/Li YH with third game ending, 25-23. Should have used "Cheng". Both players actually end their names with Cheng. Liu "Cheng" and Chen Qin"Cheng"
We find it hilarious (laughing eccentricly ) eveytime gillian/frost/steen calls her cheng cheng cheng....
I thought Zhang Nan stopped playing XD already. Why's he playing here? Or he stopped for BWF sanctioned events?
